I'm Learning, I'm learning about Music
Music is a subject that I can go on about at lengths. Music is everywhere on your phone, on the radio on the television in your car, it's inescapable. Music can be beautiful, uplifting encouraging, it can tell a story, it can be happy or sad, fast or slow. Music captivates the listener and can transport them to a world of fantasy. Music is Powerful.
When we turn the radio on what are the main subject of the songs played. Usually it's about LOVE, SEX DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND MONEY. Someone is singing about falling in love, a breakup, cheating or having a great time partying the night away. Now day's sex is openly sung whereby the singer is actually singing about the things he or she wants to do to the individual. Sex is no longer sacred, it's freely sung and is "ok" because somehow it has become acceptable under the banner of "entertainment". The music industry has been polluted by the devil he took what is good and perverted it. Sadly it's working exactly how he planned it.
The devil has infiltrated the music industry and uses it to trap people in a' world of lust, violence, wild and carefree lifestyles. A world that is moral less. 50 years ago songs had stories, messages and if they were love songs they were beautifully written. The songs of the past were appropriate for all listeners but now we have to censor what we listen to especially for the children.
I remember back in 07 there was a popular song called "I kissed a girl" the song is basically about the artist a female having a little too much and in doing so made out with a girl out of curiosity and experimental. I was spending some days at my uncles house and their neighbor had 2 beautiful girls one 4 and the other a 2 years old. One afternoon I heard the 4 years old singing the chorus, it freaked me out.
I've seen so many parents allow their children listen to songs that are inappropriate for them, sadly I too am guilty of this, especially with nieces and nephew, oh how I regret under the name of "competition" and "fun" we would play the secular songs. As much as we can say it's just music all for the fun but we are so blind to the effect that we think it's cute when we see them dancing to it or even singing it, we fail to forget children pick up behavior easily and quickly.
Working in a popular radio station at 18 for the next 7 years saw my life slowly be destroyed by the devil. I was in his playground. The music slowly slipped into my character molding my personality without me even noticing.
We don't realize what we listen too contributes to the things we like and dislike; it plays with our imaginations changers our way of thinking, and fills our mind with ungodly fantasies. It feeds our lust and fleshly desire and manifesting in our action. I remember being in love for the first time, all I wanted to do is listen to "lovey dovey" music, when I had a terrible breakup I would listen to songs about breakup, independence and being single, songs that told me I didn't need a man, songs that encouraged the party lifestyle to forget the pain. We don't realize but the songs that we choose to listen to are the sound tracks of our lives. If we ever wanted to know what was going on in someone's mind all we have to do is have a look at their playlist.
I grew up in godly home, everything that I stood on and knew what was good and what was bad soon went out the window. I began to compromise with sin, but deep down I knew I was in the wrong. During my 7 years in radio I was surrounded with this type of music. Many times I wanted to escape but couldn't it was as if I was stuck, like a strong hold held me. Praise God I was able the release came when I finally made the decision to resign.
Imagine listening to secular music 5 days a week not counting the weekend shift, being exposed to all those reckless songs. The words coming out of my mouth was filthy. Every second word was an "F" bomb and most jokes had a sexual connotation to it. There was no boundary cussing became the norm and it was funny. Where did all these foul languages come from? Definitely not from home! You see what you listen too has a powerful impact on the words that you speak. My workmates also played a part in my speech. But I'm not saying they're solely to blame for my ungodly speech, I know that I too had a hand in rubbing off nasty language on some colleagues, But that's just it music has a huge impact on our speech.
Proverb 20:12 The HEARING EAR and Seeing Eye. The Lord has made them both.
Our ears were made by the almighty a Righteous and HOLY God, so since he is Holy then we ought to listen to things which are holy and reflective of who he is. The Ears are one of the gateways to the soul, whatever we listen too trickles to our mind, it affects the way that we think, it even slips down into our soul and affect our actions. You might think "oh it's just music is can't harm me. Try not listening to anything secular and see your attitude change, you'll be surprised . Philippians 4:6 finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are noble, whatsoever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report. If there is anything praiseworthy- meditate on these things.
1. TRUE
2. NOBLE
3. JUST
4. PURE
5. LOVELY
6. GOODREPORT
7. PRAISEWORTHY.
The Mind is the battlefield for the devil to play his games on us, the scripture tells us to meditate on those 7 things, it is clear that the secular music doesn't fit any of this criteria that is because it only relates to our carnality which is our fleshly desires.
Thank God for such amazing artist that are led by the Holy Spirit to write beautiful godly music, we need to be listening to song that uplift us, build our character but mostly importantly praise God. These are the kind of music that we should be listening to, the powerful thing about Godly ordained music is that it ministers to the spirit and it somehow humbles us to see how much we need God, it glorifies and magnifies him.
I've seen my life radically changed just by watching what I listen to, I learnt that if I wanted to change I had to let go of some old habits and that was listening to things that were ungodly secular and impure. Let me tell you YES it is hard, in fact it is very hard there are some favorites songs that I had to let go, oh yes don't think I'm all righteous now. I struggled it was difficult I prayed for God to give me the strength. In my early stages with Christ I'd fall back but I praise the Lord God for the Holy Spirit who would guide and remind me that I had to watch what I was listening to.
The key is to first repent and ask God to forgive you for listening to those worldly songs, to renounce your involvement with them in the Name of Jesus then ask him to remove every demonic force that have entered your life. Once that is done ask God to close it in the name of Jesus any doorway that you opened for the devil that gave him legal rights to your life. You must realize that whatever we do whether good or bad has a consequence to dabble with the things of the world which belong to the devil there is a price to pay. But through the power of the Lord Jesus Christ he can set you free.
I pray that the Holy spirit opens your eyes to the truth of his word and that you now see how the devil has infiltrated and poisoned music.
