—REMUS SHOWED A THOUGHTFUL RIGEL THE HAND MOVEMENT OF THE PATRONUS SPELL. The weeks had passed by and it was finally the day Remus was teaching Rigel the spell.
"—and the boggart is in this chest." Remus pointed to a chest in the corner.
"Boggart?"
"Of course. You didn't expect a real dementor, did you?"
"Yes. Yes, I did."
Remus rolled his eyes fondly. "Anyways, ready?"
Rigel nodded, pulling out his wand, and taking a few deep breaths. "Ready."
Remus nodded, opening the chest.
Rigel let out a shaky breath as the boggart immediately changed into a dementor. He ignored the flashback that was happening and pointed his wand at it. "Expecto.. P-.. Patronum—"
Remus rushed over to him, catching his body as he fainted. He closed the chest with his wand, making the boggart get back in it.
The sound of groaning caught his attention, making him look at his son. "Here. It'll help." He said, giving Rigel a bar of chocolate.
Rigel took a piece and bit into it, looking confused. "What happened?"
"You fainted. What memory did you choose?"
"The first time I rode a broom."
"That's not good enough." Remus looked at him as if he were dumb. "Not nearly good enough."
"Jeez, Remy." Rigel sarcastically rolled his eyes.
"Think about—.." Remus looked thoughtful, and stayed silent for a few seconds, a smirk slowly creeping up on his face. "Thomas."
Rigel choked on the chocolate, eyes widening in shock. What did Tom have to do with this?
"What does he have to do with this?"
Did Remus forget that Tom killed his parents?.. Yes. Even Sirius did.
Rigel shook his head, not knowing how the two were so dumb.
"Oh, Ri.." Remus shook his head. "Think about something that makes you happy. A powerful happy memory."
Tom was definitely out for that to work.
".. I think I got it." Rigel stood up, looking a bit more confident.
Remus nodded, opening the chest again.
Rigel tried ignoring the flashback— trying to focus all his thoughts onto Remus and Sirius.
"Sirius—!"
4-year old Rigel giggled as he was spun around by Sirius, while Remus shook his head fondly.
"Come on, Moony— our son is having fun!"
"Expecto Patronum." Rigel mumbled. His eyes, along with Remus', widened when it worked, but it was a wisp instead of an animal.
Noticing this, Rigel looked at Remus in confusion. Remus gave him a proud smile, "You just did a non-corporeal patronus, Ri!"
"I wanted a corporeal." Rigel immediately said in disappointment.
Remus frowned. "Ri, not many can even achieve a non-corporeal—"
"I've got it!" Rigel cut him off, looking extremely confident. "Open the chest, I know I can do it."
The older man looked slightly hesitant, but did as he said.
"Mommy loves you, darling. Be safe. Dada loves you."
"Expecto Patronum!"
Remus' eyes widened when a beautiful stag burst out of Rigel's wand.
The stag galloped to the dementor, making it go back to the chest immediately, and walked back to Rigel, walking in circles around him.
Rigel let out a chuckle, for the first time in a long time— his smile was larger than usual.
"...what memory did you choose?" asked Remus eventually.
"I thought about mum's last words to me.." His son admitted, sighing when the patronus was gone. "And their love. All I thought about was that they loved me so much, they both gave up their lives for me with no hesitation whatsoever."
Remus nodded sadly, making Rigel sigh.
"Well, you did it!" Remus exclaimed proudly, trying to change the subject.
"Yeah.. I did!" Rigel finally realized it, looking slightly excited.
He could finally fight off his worst fear...
but what would happen when his real worst fear shows itself?
