—THOMAS GAUNT WATCHED AS RIGEL WALKED AWAY FROM THE TABLE AND OUT OF THE GREAT HALL. There was something about the boy that he wished to figure out. The boy had given him many unwanted questions that could never be answered. The questions were:
1-why was he so cold?
2-why does he never smile?
3-why did he even help him achieve a body in the first place? Surely it wasn't just because of the fear that Thomas would hurt his family, right?
••
After the classes were finished for the day, Thomas Gaunt walked to the library, hoping to finish some homework.
However, as soon as he spotted Rigel, who was busy reading 3 books at once for some reason, all thoughts of why he was there were gone.
He walked over to Rigel and sat down, "What are you looking for?"
Rigel didn't even look up from the books as he answered, "Ways to kill a dark lord who is somehow immortal."
Thomas opened his mouth to shoot back a witty reply, but gave him a look as he just understood what the boy had said. "How.. great."
"Indeed." The second-year said, wandlessly closing the books and sending them back to their places, making Thomas blink a couple of times in shock. "May I ask why you're here?"
"I thought you might need some help."
Rigel scoffed, "Even if I did, you'd be the last person I'd go to for help."
Thomas pursed his lips. "Why do you hate me so much?"
"I hate everybody." Rigel simply answered and stood up, not wanting to be with him for much longer.
"I'll change that one day." Thomas mumbled, watching the boy leave the library.
••
"Have you finished the homework?" Draco asked Blaise. The trio were by the fireplace in the common room. Draco and Blaise were busy playing wizard's chess, while Rigel was busy reading a book.
"We had homework?" Blaise questioned, grinning when he finally won, and said, "Checkmate."
"That's the third time in a row!" Draco exclaimed in shock, "How the bloody hell do you do that?!"
"You don't focus."
"Whatever." Draco mumbled bitterly, pulling out his homework from his bag.
"Oi, Rigel." Blaise said, catching the boy's attention. "Can we copy off of your homework?"
"No, you cannot." Rigel immediately said.
Blaise groaned, laying on the floor dramatically, catching a few of the other Slytherin's attentions.
"Blaise, get your arse back up and help me." Draco said.
Blaise glared at him, "I don't know the answers!"
Rigel Black rolled his eyes at their bickering and stood up, walking out of the common room.
••
The Black heir immediately relaxed as he stepped into the Astronomy tower and walked over to the edge, looking at the beautiful view.
Since he could remember, the stars and constellations had always relaxed Rigel. He had always reckoned that it had something to do with his family being named after them, but wasn't so sure.
