"Why was Jenna there?" Aria asked, breaking the agonising silence that had come over the girls.
The burial allowed the girls to focus on Alison, rather than the creepy detective who seemed to pop up everywhere they went. Prior to the funeral, the girls had been told that they were welcome to bring an item that was meaningful to their relationship with Alison, and place it in the coffin. Ivy had placed her old, purple friendship bracelet with her name on it that Alison had given her and the girls when they started to become closer.
This was because Ivy wanted to move on with her life, and stop Alison's death from holding her back. For the past year, Ivy had been battling with not knowing if Alison was dead or alive, and it pained her. She had no idea if Alison was still out there, or if she had been murdered. Her disappearance took a toll on Ivy.
Within the last year, Ivy had changed tremendously. She had recognised everything that was wrong with Alison and her friendship, and wanted to work on healing those friendships with other people, and focus on not letting Alison's past behaviour influence her.
So she wanted to move on.
After the funeral concluded, the girls decided to get a couple of drinks at The Applerose Grille, where they would continue their conversation about detective Wilden, Jenna's appearance at the funeral, Alison, and the anonymous stalker.
"I guess she's back." Ivy shrugged, taking a sip of her lemonade.
"The cop acted like we were suspects or something," Hanna stated, her brows pulling together as she recalled the conversation they had with him.
"Do you think we looked guilty?" Panic started to form in Emily, and she glanced around at the girls in worry.
Aria shook her head, trying to stop the anxiety rushing through them all. "Why would we? We haven't done anything wrong?" She reassured. She was right, they hadn't done anything, however Wilden made it seem as though they had killed Alison - which was certainly not true.
"Except lie about The Jenna Thing," Hanna recalled.
Each of the girls' eyes widened as they were remembered the event. The Jenna thing was something the girls swore they would never talk about again. It hurt Ivy to talk about it. She never wanted for it to happen; She had expressed her concerns that night, but Alison never listened. She ignored her. Alison was so determined to do it, and when she set her mind on something, it was almost impossible to sway her decision.
"We promised we'd never bring up the Jenna thing again, remember? It never happened," Whispered Spencer as she glanced around the restaurant, paranoid that someone was listening in on their conversation.
"Have you found a way to forget?" Aria questioned. "I still wake up sometimes in the middle of the night—"
Spencer was quick to jump in and stop her, "—Aria, it was an accident."
