A slow approach

Kyo awoke feeling a headache present as the grogginess seeped away. She tried to move her arms, but chains immobilised them. "What the hell is this?"

That's when she heard an all too familiar laugh.  "Naraku! Where are you?!"

He showed himself, a sly grin on his lips. "I gave you one task Kyo. Are you that bad at listening?"

She yanked against her chains, "you manipulated me to do something you suck at!"

Naraku swung a small knife that she hadn't seen him carrying. "Besides that, it seems you've made friends with them and another I don't recognise."

Kyo steeled herself. "Yeah, and what of it?"

The wolf girl could sense malicious energy radiating from him. "I got Kana to do some discovering on the Shinto girl. If their wings are cut off, they kill themselves."

Kyo had no idea where he was going with this; all she knew was it couldn't be good. "You won't be getting close enough to harm her; I'll kill you before you do."

He gripped the handle of the knife tightly. "Oh, for sure, but her wings weren't the ones I was thinking of cutting off."

She paled. It was her wings he was talking about.

That stupid grin widened, "I see you caught on."

As the stars came out, Shinto thought to make a go at finding Kyo while everybody was asleep. Naraku seemed all types of evil, and she didn't want to spend another minute lounging around.

She spread her wings and took off with a soft whoosh. But even something that silent Inuyasha could hear as his ear twitched at the sound.

He popped his head out the door and saw her flying through the sky, getting further away. He sighed, "why are you always so impatient."

With no choice but to follow, he ran off into the night after her. Nobody else awoke, instead sleeping soundly without a care in the world.

The breeze was gentle on her wings, so the flight wasn't a hassle. "Shinto!"

The angel automatically groaned as she turned to fly backwards and spotted the dog demon running below. His hand cupped around his mouth so his voice could reach above.

She ignored him and went back to flying normally. Inuyasha felt slight irritation at her blatant attempt to pretend he wasn't there.

"Shinto, come down here!" He tried again, but she didn't look his way this time.

So his only option was to keep running. But the moment she went flying a little lower, a branch snagged her wing. Causing it to sprain and her to pummel into the ground.

"Owww...."

Inuyasha saw a load of dust first, then her. He went to help, but she slapped his hand away. "I don't need your help. I can stand."

When she did, Shinto inspected her wing, and when she slightly brushed he fingers along the feathers, it hurt. "Ouch!...looks like I'm not flying now."

Inuyasha folded his arms flat across his chest. "At least you won't ignore me."

Shinto pointed a finger at him, "this is your fault."

"This is not in any way my fault! You're going to find Kyo by yourself when Naraku is ten times stronger than you!"

Shinto sighed, "I don't want Kyo to suffer any longer over this Naraku guy."

"Why are you so fussed when you haven't known her for long?"

Shinto suddenly plopped onto the ground and rested her chin on her knees. "She's the one good person I've met in a long time. I don't get any indication she'll hurt me."

Inuyasha stared at nothing in particular. He wanted to be another reasonable person in her eyes, but all his presence seemed to do was make her angry. He knew why he wasn't stupid in that aspect, but he hoped the day would come when she smiled at him.

And he was the reason for that smile.

"Well....venturing at night doesn't mean you'll be any closer to finding her. Not to mention you can't do it on your own."

She gazed up at him, and her yellow pupils seemed so bright in the moonlight. "So you're saying we need to work together."

"Yes, and we should both rest." He sat down, too and used a thick tree to lean on. He was about to close his eyes, but Shinto showed no signs of sleeping.

"Shinto." Just him saying her name made her heart thump a little harder.

"What?" She tried to sound annoyed, but it came out so quiet. She used her black strands to cover her face.

The dog demon made a bold move towards the girl who despised him. She heard his feet coming in her direction; he grabbed her arm and dragged her to the spot he'd been.

"Inuyasha, what are you-" she cut herself off as he took a seat and placed her in his lap.

Shinto felt her cheeks go red hot and was ready to scramble. But he snaked his arms around her waist and gently held firm.

"I just want you to be comfortable...so please rest here."

Why was he doing this? Shinto couldn't figure it out, but for one night, she'd give in. In truth, she was giving in to more than his request.
