I walk down the narrow cobblestone streets to the town. Today I put on a sky blue dress that goes down to my knees. Maybe If I get chosen I'll be able to wear more of these. I could embrace my girly side.

I'll never actually become a princess. So I'll play dress up.

Once I see the long line of girls heading down the street, I know I'm in the right place. I walk to the end of the shortest line. It was a 45-minute wait but when I finally got the front I was freezing. It was the end of December, the weather was just starting to clear up, and my mom insisted that I wear a dress.

I wasn't that popular at school, and have never had a boyfriend, but I had a few close friends. Alex, my best friend, (the weirdest person you'll ever have to honor of meeting) we have known each other since we were about three.

Our families met at my aunts graduation from college. I wish she was here but I know she hates things like this.

In fact, she might disown me as a best friend if she knows I'm here.

I make my way to the camera man waving me over. I sat on the cream stool, and positioned myself. I smiled my best smile, and after about three, very bright flashes, I was done, and almost blind.

After blinking a few times a saw a familiar, white blonde head bobbing up and down in the crowd. I ran over to her and tapped Alex on the shoulder.

"Ciao Lily ! What's up? " She said turning towards me.

"Just here for The Selection." I said as I have her the look that says 'Duh!'
We walk and talk for a while, and then stop at a local café and get some tea.

" I can't possibly imagine being away from you for a year! Or longer, if you marry the prince!" Alex says as she fake cries, wiping her imaginary tears.

"I probably won't even be picked. Even if I do I'm setting it up so all the money goes straight to a collection of shelters.

"Lil! That's a great idea!" She says with a smile. "I've got to go, dad's being a horse and I'm going to go scream at him and then hide in my room until he leaves the house. Then I'll binge out on ice-cream and old re-runs of shows. See you tomorrow, Lady Lily..." she says with a smirk, using one of her favorite insults on one of her least favorite people.

Aye, if you could vote and comment that would be spectacular.
