Dinner with family has always been exhausting for Seri. The endless bickering of her two brothers and the effort to ignore the unnecessary comments of her mother are just some of the things she has to put up with everytime she shared a meal with them.
Tonight, though, her father insisted that Yi Soo should join them for dinner. Seri asked Yi Soo and he agreed immediately saying that he knew they will just keep asking if they make up an excuse this time so it's better to just go with it.
It has been a few weeks after the day she got drunk and made up with Jeong Hyeok. Yi Soo knows that they have been seeing each other in secret. He didn't ask so much on the details and Seri appreciated that. Yi Soo just asked her to be careful.
The dinner isn't that bad actually. Her brothers discussed business with Yi Soo as she remained silent, listening beside her fiancé. She's trying to avoid any conflicts by keeping her mouth shut. She knew her brothers still thinks of her as an outsider and would never discuss these things with her even though she badly wants to correct the suggestions they've been bringing up and Yi Soo has been respectful enough to listen and nod to evey now and then.
But when their eyes met and knew they both think that their plans are plain ridiculous, they both have to hold back their laughter. Her father saw the exchange between the engaged couple and asked, "So will the wedding finally be in 4 months? or do you two need more time preparing?"
They looked at one another once again and Yi Soo decided speak, "We're just sorting something out..."
"I'm starting to make plans...so it's possible..we'll keep you posted..." Seri jumped into the conversation with a lie as she thinks that's better for now. Her father nodded as they went back to eating in silence. Seri sighed in relief. She knows that these responses and lies would only be acceptable at some point. Sooner or later, they would start asking about the details, the venue, the guest... but she trusts Yi Soo and the private investigator that they hired to look into their family's activities for the last 2 years. They could sort this out.
After dinner, her father and Yi Soo talked some more about a business deal they have been working on with a Switzerland brand for the company's airlines over a glass of wine.
Seri listened as usual. She wanted to update them on the launch of a popular jewelry line in the US in South Korea through their department store and how the projected income from the collaboration would put them back on the top retail store in the country but no one asked, so she didn't try to join in the conversation.
She received a message that made her snap out of her thoughts and made her care less about not being recognized.
"I'm at your place already.. I'm done for the week. I can't wait to see you."
They haven't seen each other for a week as Jeong Hyeok is busy with school. Seri thought that it's best that he focus on school work first and Jeong Hyeok agreed as he is having a hard time concentrating in his work, law school and seeing Seri.
He promised to visit this weekend though. That's why after his last class he immediately went to her place even if she isn't there.
Seri told him about the dinner she has to attend to tonight. Jeong Hyeok understands that Yi Soo and Seri has to keep pretending in front of their families and the public but Seri assured him that Yi Soo and her is on the same page on this and are both focused on helping her find out whatever it is their families are hiding.
Jeong Hyeok trusts Seri. He likes to believe that he trusts Yi Soo too at some extent as he saw how he helped him and Seri get back together a few weeks ago.
Seri didn't realize that her father asked her a question so Yi Soo had to tap her legs for her to respond. She apologized for spacing out and her father is quick to assume that she's tired from all the wedding planning. She didn't correct him. Whatever helps you sleep at night, she thought. She even made that an excuse so Yi Soo and her could go ahead and leave already.
