CHAPTER 17

(Victor's POV)

"What the hell are you talking about Z, I'm an only child and as you had rightly snooped about, I am the lone heir to very rich parents. Obviously, they will be concerned about my safety. No, we don't have enemies but that doesn't mean we can't be worried about ourselves" Athena shouts at Z.

"Luna, still you were targeted. Please ask your parents, they might know something you don't" Z pleads.

Okay, I have never seen Z plead. Something is definitely wrong.

"Enough" I tell.

"Athena, darling we have to inform your parents either way"

I get mind linked by the pack police. They have him. MAX... Locked up in the pack cells. He was the only one to know about Athena being my mate and knew about the dinner reservations also. There was something fishy with the way he was questioning me that day when I found Athena. I just thought he was excited, but apparently no...

I look at Z, who by the looks of it, has also been mind linked about Max. "I'll get to it Alpha" he says and leaves the room.

I sigh, this is going to take a lot of explanation.

"I can't tell my parents Victor; they will freak out. It is just not..." Athena speaks way too stressed out.

"Babe look at me" I hold her in my arms and make her look at me. "Athena, your parents have the right to freak out. Their only daughter has been targeted. But if we don't inform them, they could be in danger and not know it." I try to reason with her.

She slowly nods, I give her a smile, and drag her to one of the guestrooms. "Like it?" I ask her.

(Athena's POV)

The room is just so good. It has a queen size bed in the center with huge windows on the side. The carpet under my feet is so soft. There are fairy lights everywhere and a huge dressing table. And the room has an excellent colour combination – Shades of Blue. WOW! Just wow.

"I love it Victor", he chuckles.

"My room will look even better you know... It has me in it" he jokes. I give him a punch on his left bicep, and he feigns pain.

Aww, so adorable.

"Shall we make the call" he asks. He is relentless and won't give up. Lucky me.

I groan and nod. The sooner the better. I find myself dialing my dad, and he picks up on the first ring.

"Athena, you didn't take my calls, what happened? Are you alright? Is everything okay? You need help?" my dad was ranting.

I was texting them every now and then, but no they wanted to hear my voice. "Dad I am alright, it's just that something happened and please don't freak out okay..."

"What! What happened... is it an accident, I told you not to go by public transport, why can't you just take one of our cars and a driver with you? Do you need money... Honey please don't hesitate... Why are you so quiet? Did someone harm you? Shall we come over?"

I just can't bring myself to explain anything and look at Victor, who was giving me a stern impatient look. He just grabs the phone, "Hello Mr. Crimson, I am Victor Cage, CEO of Cage Estates Pvt. Ltd., I also happen to be your daughter's... boyfriend..." he continues.

I facepalm myself. Oh my god!

The phone is on the speaker now, "What? What do you mean boyfriend, give the phone to my daughter right now! Athena what the hell is this?" My dad screams.

"Now, now, calm down Mr. Crimson" Victor drags out.

"Don't ask me to calm down, give the phone to her"

"Sir, firstly the phone is on speaker and your daughter is right beside me. Secondly, I think I can ask you to calm down given that I am not just her boyfriend but I also took a bullet for her." Victor says casually as if getting shot was routine stuff.

"You what? Is she alright? You're lying, aren't you? Athena? But who?" my dad's voice is drowned with worry.

"Dad, I am safe and alright, please don't panic, what victor means to say is that, someone tried to kill me and he protected me. I am in a safe place... at the resort I told you before... He took a bullet for me! dad, so just don't get mad at him please. If not anything else, he saved me."

There's a long pause "Okay, but that doesn't mean that he will get in my good books, no man in this world is fit for my daughter, anyways... Thank you for saving my daughter Mr. Cage" my dad says, and I visibly relax.

"But Athena, that doesn't excuse you from not telling us about this whole boyfriend thing. What were you thinking... Come back home, that place is not safe, you almost got shot, you have to get out of there, maybe they mistook you for someone else, I'll send in..." he continues but gets interrupted "Sir, Its Victor again, this place is more safe than your home could ever be, you can come here with Mrs. Crimson and be my guest, if it is so unsettling for you to leave your daughter alone. But the point is we just want to know if you have enemies who you think could have targeted your daughter."

There is another pause, "Thanks for inviting us, I and my wife will be there in 2 days' time. But I really don't have enemies, neither in business nor in my personal life and there is honestly no point in discussing this within ourselves. We must report this to the authorities" my dad says.

"We have reported this to the authorities already Mr. Crimson, they are investigating about it as we speak. We look forward to your arrival." Victor keeps it crisp in a business only tone.

"Dad, don't worry and when you and mom come here try to be safe." I tell him "Sure Athena, just be careful and stay indoors" and with that my Dad cuts the call.
