CHAPTER 7

(Athena's POV)

This crazy guy is threatening the man 'called Alpha', that he will kill me. This Alpha guy is unfazed and walks closer and stops at the warning. But suddenly I hear the crazy guy scream and loosens his grip on my neck. Oh, he was attacked from behind! Then the Alpha guy comes closer, pulls me out of the crazy guy's grip, picks me up effortlessly with his strong arms. I'm doing it again... I'm admiring him... I never do this, what has gotten into me? He checks me for any signs of distress, so I give him a reassuring smile. He nods and puts me aside as if I was bag of cotton.

Betty is quick to come to my side and asks if I'm alright. I mutter something to her while watching what he is doing. He turns to the crazy guy, yells something and throws him down.

He turns to me, his face holds some emotion I can't read. "Miss, I am Victor Cage, what is your name?" he asks in a deep voice. "Athena Crimson" I reply. "Let's go to the doctor within the resort to check you" he says and I nod. I look at Betty who looks as if she has seen some ghost, I'm about to ask what happened when my eyes widen and realization dawns. CAGE! Victor Cage, he is the owner of the Cage estates. And he is worried about me and wants me to see the doctor. He leads the way.

Betty yell whispers in my ear "He is so good looking and he likes you" I shush her saying that he is just worried because all of this happened in his resort. But truthfully, I'm hoping he likes me!!!

We reach the first aid room, and the doctor checks me for injuries and asks me a series of questions, like, if I feel pain/discomfort somewhere. I answer the questions, but I really cannot concentrate on the doctor. How can I? when 'The Victor Cage' is staring at me with some emotion I can't read. The doctor says I have nothing to worry. We thank the doctor and leave the room.

(Victor's POV)

"Please come to my office" I say to Athena, she looks confused but agrees. Betty mutters some excuse and leaves us alone.

I am not sure if I must come clean to Athena now. I mean it will be too much for her to know that I am a werewolf and an Alpha at that. Plus, this whole concept of mates will be super difficult to explain to a human. It will be even more difficult for her to understand.

I plan on asking her out on a date. I can explain everything to her shortly after that. At least I'll know if the attraction is mutual, human-mate or not.

"Athena, are you..."

The door opens and I see Betty and Max, my freelance consultant lawyer at the door. He is human, but is aware that I am a werewolf. Max has a protective arm over Betty.

Oh! Max said he is marrying next month, and wanted his 'bride to be' to have a vacation here... it must be Betty. I make a mental note to thank him later for bringing Betty and Athena to my resort. Without him I wouldn't have met Athena ever. Max's eyes widen, looking at me and Athena.

He knows I don't entertain women, that too not this close...

Before he puts two and two together and figure out, she is my mate and blurts out something, I speak – "Hey Max, is she your fiancée?" He nods "Yes, Alpha" and gives me a slight bow as a sign of respect. The girls are clearly confused but don't comment. Good.

"Athena, I'd like to take you out for dinner tonight at 7, be ready" I say and walk out of my room, leaving her speechless. Max and Betty's jaws dropped. I tell Max I have to speak with him and he comes with me.

When we are out of hearing distance, he starts to badger me with questions. I stop him and "Max, you're right... Athena is my mate, but I don't want to tell her everything, given that she is human. She might just run for the hills. I don't want that to happen"

"I understand Alpha, is there any way I can help" he asks.

"Yes, don't tell the girls about 'you know what' and make Athena come to dinner" I said, he nods and leaves.
