CHAPTER 13

(Victor's POV)

I wake up in my pack's hospital, my eyes immediately search for her, my mate. There she is, standing near the beeping monitors. She doesn't realize I'm awake. She stayed.

"You stayed" I croak, my mouth feels dry and my voice comes muffled through the oxygen mask. She turns to look at me, "You're alive." She pours some water into a glass from a jug that was there by my bedside and hands it over to me. God I can admire the way she moves all day, every day.

I take off my mask, gulp down the water, "Of course I'm alive, don't think I'll leave you, ever..." I say with sincerity. "But what's more important is, you stayed", I continued.

"Yes, I stayed, actually I became unconscious, after you know.... Whatever happened" she responds, her eyes not meeting mine.

"Okay, but you are here with me now, I thought you would have escaped from this place the moment you got the chance, after you saw me shift. But no, you didn't, you stayed with me." She listens and nods, "I know I have the choice to not be here, but something halts me, something I can't explain."

I thank the goddess for the mate bond. Thank you so much.

"I know you have tonnes of questions, you can feel free to ask me anything, I'll try my best to explain it in the most practical way possible." I tell her. She raises an eyebrow "Practical?"

"Yes, my love 'practical', because logic goes out of the window in the werewolf world. So, as you must have figured out, I am a werewolf and Alpha of the Cage pack, an alpha is a..." She interrupts me, "I know who an alpha is, if all the books I read in the past are accurate."

"Yes, yes, it's mostly true" I reply.

"You are my mate. I will care for you till the end of my life and even after if that is possible. I know all this is too much for you take in, so we can take this as slow as you want. I give you my word that I will never force you to do anything... If you don't want me... I can understand that too" My heart clenches as I tell her this, I don't want to be away from my mate, but it is the proper thing to do. I must give her a choice.

"Is there a reason why I should not want you?" she asks and I'm a bit amused. Out of all the questions she could ask me, she asks this. But then, I can't really blame her. I clear my throat, "Ummm, other than the fact that I'm very rich and I rule this place. I don't think anything should bother you, and obviously I am very handsome, charming and strong which I believe are highly desirable traits in both of our worlds" I reply playfully wiggling my eyebrows.

Her face hardens, she is clearly displeased with my idea of joke. "Look Mister cocky arrogant narcissist, if you think I will be your mate only for your money and looks then I'm sorry I'll be out of your hair in no time" she turns and heads to the door.

Shit! I was just teasing.

"Athena wait" I stand up and run after her, pulling the machines that are connected to me, the monitors crash and she turns at the sound. Machines start to beep like crazy.

"I was just kidding, I am not that cliché billionaire playboy. I haven't had a single girlfriend all my life. Trust me when I tell you that I could have had many girls but I didn't. I always wanted to wait for my mate. Here you are and I will prove myself to you, but please give me a chance" I tell her.

She thinks for a moment and sighs, "Uhh... okay! But you get one chance and you better don't screw it for your own good. I don't even know why I want to give you a chance though. I never do this!" she puts her hands on her face, she's clearly stressing out.

I see the doctors coming inside the room due to the beeping monitors. I mind link them to give us minute. They nod, but they don't leave the room, and are looking at us. I glare at them, to make them leave. One tries to speak but I just signal them to keep quiet and get the hell out of here.

I don't want to lose the moment. My mate is in distress and I want to comfort her.

I go near her, put my hands on the side of her arms and start rubbing it, knowing that my touch will calm her "My dear mate, my love, my Luna, you want to give me a chance because of the mate bond pull. Even though you are a human and can't smell me like I can smell you...which by the way is the most unique and pristine scent ever" I inhale her scent deeply and let out a sigh. "Your mind and body will have an attraction to your mate – ME. That is the beauty of the mate bond" I tell her.

She drops her hands from her face and look up to meet my eyes. "And is that a good thing?" She asks. "Honey, it is the best thing that will ever happen to us" I tell her in all honesty.

It's the truth, getting a mate and being by their side for the rest of your life, is the best thing that can happen to you.

She smiles, "One chance."

"Thank you love" I kiss her forehead and she gasps in surprise. I can't help but let out a chuckle.

The doctors now barge in and ignore my glares. Before I can mind link them, Athena looks at them and leave my arms. I feel like groaning... Did they have to come now, can't they see I'm alright.

The doctors' motion me to sit for examining me and I comply reluctantly, at least my mate is with me by my side. That should be enough for now.
