CHAPTER 40

(Victor's POV)

I woke up early, but am still in bed, being a creepy person staring at my beautiful mate as she sleeps. Things have turned out for good... Athena has taken my mark, she is sleeping in my bed with me, in the Alpha floor. Only one thing has to go right. Lucius. And for that to go right. I have to kill him. Else, everything will go wrong.

I will be spending time with Athena today. But things are already in motion to solve this problem. I have asked Z to tighten security, prepare our warriors, clear the resort. My dad mindlinked me as soon as I woke up today, saying that he spoke with the witches, and the witches will create an invisible shield surrounding our pack, that will prevent anyone from entering, before lunch time. After which he will order complete sweeping of the pack to ensure no one has sneaked in.

'Alpha?' Z Mindlinks me

'Yes Z'

'Alpha, we have some intel about Lucius, I thought you might want to know.'

'Speak' I tell him

'Lord Lucius lives in a huge mansion alone, in the middle of a human town that's about two hours away from the Orion pack. All of his staff are human. Only his butler, George, seems to know that he is a vampire. We know this because, all of the town thinks that George is a crazy liar, who keeps spreading rumors about Lucius. Clearly no one believes him, even though the truth is out for everyone to know. Since Lucius lives in a human town, attacking him there, may expose our world to the humans. And like you rightly said, Lucius has contacts with private assassins, who managed to do all the work on his behalf. We are trying to track the assassins, but they are really elusive even though they are humans. Also, no one has seen Lucius come out of his mansion for years. Only the staff come in and go out.' Z tells me.

'Okay Z, we will come up with a plan. Anything else?'

'The witches have arrived and are creating the shield as we link (speak), once that is done, we will search the entire pack. Other security measures are in place. The guests at the resort have moved out.' He tells me.

'Good, stay alert' I cut off the link.

Athena stirs awake, "What time is it?" she slurs

"11:30am love"

"What? Why didn't you wake me up?" she questions me as she tries to get out of my hold, which I only tighten.

"Victor! Let me go."

"You need to tell me the magical words to get released." I tell her.

She huffs, "Okay, Alpha Victor Cage, if you don't release me right now, I will make you sleep on the couch."

"No way..." I say, still not releasing her.

"Yes way! And I will do it if you don't let me go." She smirks and I let her go, shocked that she will do that to me, that too for something as simple as not letting her get out of bed.

"I was thinking you would say that you love me or something..." I mumble

She chuckles and gets out of bed, "Well, better luck next time!"

"Seriously love? It's just the morning after I marked you and you threaten to make me sleep on the couch?" I ask, faking sadness.

She rolls her eyes, and comes to lie beside me and pulls my arms and places it around her, replicating the position we were in before, "Shall we try again?" she asks and I don't reply. I am really enjoying this. My cute adorable mate, trying to lift my mood is the best thing ever.

"Victor honey, will you please let me go. I love you more than the entire universe. So let me go, my big bad wolf" she coos.

"This time you said the right set of magical words so I will allow you to go." I tell her chuckling as I release my arms and kiss her on the forehead.

"Good, and I must tell you my big cuddle dog, that you are a terrible actor." She laughs and I try to get hold of her again, but she jumps out of the bed and rushes into the restroom, closing it.

"That was not acting, I was really hurt." I tell her over the door, trying to control my laughter, but failing miserably.

"We both know, that you were faking it... And I can hear you laughing Mister. But it's kinda cute, which is why I won't ban you from our bed." She says laughing, and I shake my head in disbelief.

Just a few months back, my life was all serious. And I never imagined doing such petty stuff with my mate and being happy about little things. But now, everything has changed. And it is really good. I just hope that it doesn't get jinxed.

A tattoo artist came in after our brunch and tattooed on my neck. It was very similar to my mark on Athena. Other than that, I spent the entire day with Athena, watching movies and cuddling.

It is after dinner time now. The witches have created the shield. The pack has been swooped for intruders. Everything is going according to the plan so far. I need to come up with something to lure Lucius out of his mansion.
