CHAPTER 21

(Victor's POV)

"Eat, you'll feel better" I was trying to feed her. She didn't move. I sighed, "I can't bear to see you like this Athena, you fell unconscious and I- I..." I was trying to control my wolf. He wants to be let out and mark her. We almost lost her TWICE! And she is not feeling very good right now. If only we had the mate bond going through us, I would be able to send her some comfort through the link. I feel so useless, me THE ALPHA can't seem to do anything to comfort my mate.

She flinches and moves away from me. I can see fear in her eyes... "What happened" I growled and she flinches more. Damn, I clear my throat, it's my Alpha voice, I didn't mean to use it on her. Shit.

(Athena's POV)

His eyes were darkening, like the whole eyes, what the hell was happening! To tell that I was afraid would be an understatement. Maybe he was shifting into his wolf. Is he angry that I am not eating?

... "What happened" he growled, Oh SHIT he is definitely angry.

He shakes his head, and his eyes go back to normal. "I'm sorry babe, I didn't mean to use my Alpha voice on you. Why are you afraid of me?"

"Your eyes... it darkened" I whisper pointing to his eyes.

He looks confused, then his eyes widen in realization, "Oh, it's just that my wolf is trying to take control, don't worry you are safe with me, both in human and wolf form. I'll never hurt you."

I nod, "I, I am hungry, but Max and Betty are dead because of me, I don't think I should eat, it should have been me, not them... Why am I even feeling hungry, I am so cruel, I, I am evil..." I ramble bordering on being hysterical.

"Sweetheart, Sweetheart stop" Victor growls harshly, "Don't you dare blaming yourself. If anyone is to be blamed it should be me, I couldn't keep you guys safe" he says sighing. "I really wish that Max would have told me about this sooner, we could have saved them, but again I'm not sure. If anything, Betty and Max died protecting you, I will avenge their death." He looks angry, sad and drained out. He nudges the spoon to my mouth, "Eat, you are exhausted I too feel hungry, but that doesn't mean I am not mourning my loss. Max was a good friend, there are not many humans I trust enough to know about the werewolf community and live to speak about it, maybe he just felt helpless when Betty's life became more like a bargaining chip. I know you are hurting but I just can't bear to see my mate unfed. So, Eat." Victor tries feeding me again. So, I eat, we both finish in about 15 minutes, or maybe it was about an hour, I couldn't keep a track of time, it was as if everything was in slow motion.

He takes a napkin from the tray and wipes my lips and leans down to kiss my forehead and tucks me in the bed, He sits next to me holding my hands and my mind keeps wavering. It's around 7pm now, I wasn't fully aware of whats happening around me, but when I do come about, I either see him gazing at me with so much love or his eyes glazed out, doing that mindlink thing. "It must be really cool" I blurt out.

"What love?" he says startled.

"You're doing the mindlink thing aren't you?" I ask him and he nods with a warm smile, "It must be really cool" I say and he gives a hearty laugh hearing it "Yes, yes love, it is cool" and looks guilty all of a sudden, "Honey, I have some work to take care of, I need to go, please sleep and don't think much" he says.

He gives a peck on my lips, making me blush like a tomato. He chuckles on seeing me blush, he leaves for the door "I'll be in my office, it's in the ground floor, if you need me, but I should be back soon for the night, my bedroom is just next to yours, feel free to walk in, you – my love- don't have to knock" He smiles and walks away after closing the door.

I try to sleep, but it wouldn't come, all I could think about was Betty, and ended up crying, till I slept.
