Chapter 1

Kenli's pov;
"I have someone I want you to meet" spoke the sweet southern accent on the other end of the phone. "Umm okay?" I spoke quietly not sure of how to take this. "She's great! You'll love her KJ!" He spoke. I smiled cause he used my nickname he gave to me when we were kids. See Luke and me met back in elementary school and have been stuck like glue ever since! He use to call me "KJ" when we were kids and every so often he will say it now. "Well I can't wait to meet her!" I tried to say happily but truthfully I don't know how to feel about this.. I mean sure me and Luke are best friends but last time he was dating a girl he distanced himself away from me and even though he promised that wouldn't happen again I'm afraid it will.. "Tomorrow night! Will you come for dinner? Please KJ! She's meeting mom and dad and I don't know if I can do this without you" he pleaded threw the phone. I took a deep breath "I'll see what I can do" I whispered into the phone. "What's wrong?" He asked in concern. Darn him he always can tell "nothing" I said trying to hide the fact I didn't want to go to dinner and meet some girl he fell for.. "Kenli Ray Johnson I know something is wrong! Spill it now or im coming over" he threatened. "Luke no it's just some things are on my mind. It's okay don't worry about it" I spoke softly. "are you sure?" He spoke softly in his thick accent. "Yeah, hey I gotta go now but I'll talk to you later okay" i said hoping he'd fall for it. "Okay but I'm coming by later to check on you!" He said sternly "why?" I asked surprised. "I'll see you after I get off work. Love you I'll talk to you soon" he said before hanging up. "I love you too.." I whispered putting my phone down. "Great!" I mumbled before getting up from my bed and walking downstairs to get a drink. "Hi honey" my mom called out through the living room "hey" I mumbled walked towards her "everything okay sweetie?" She asked in concern. I smiled a little "yeah just stuff on my mind but I'll be okay, hey Umm Luke is coming over after work" I said heading for the stairs "okay I'll leave the door unlocked when I leave then?" She asked "he knows where the key is go ahead and lock it" I hollered from my room. "Have a good night at work love you!" I called out. My mom has recently taken on a night shift at the hospital so we can afford to take a trip at the end of the year.. Which Luke is suppose to go with us but I don't know about that now.. I plugged in my headphones and laid on my bed letting the music drift me away. I guess I must've fell asleep cause i was woke up by Luke shaking me. "Oh you're here" I mumbled half asleep. "How you feeling?" He asked sitting down on my bed. I smiled sitting up "im fine now" I said putting my phone and headphones on my nightstand. "How was work?" I asked looking up at him. "One day closer to moving to Nashville!" He said smiling and I couldn't help but smile back. "im hungry" i whined getting up Outta bed and walking downstairs. "There's pizza on the counter" Luke hollered from my room. "You're the best!" I hollered back running into the kitchen and grabbing the box and taking it back upstairs. "So who's this girl you're so crazy about?" I said before shoving food in my face. "Well her name is Cayley, she's 19 blonde hair and blue eyes" he said smiling down at his phone as it lit up. "How'd yall meet?" I asked after I set my food down. "I went into the local café and she was working and she's new in town. We met and clicked and well a week later I asked her out" he said looking over at Kenli and grabbing and slice of pizza. "Well I'm sure you two will have a good relationship" she mumbled before taking a bite of the crust. Her phone started ringing "hello?" I mumbled "Kenli hey girl what's up." A way to familiar voice came threw the phone. "Daniel?" I whispered not wanting to know.. "Yeah! Miss me yet?" He said in a cocky voice. "Give me the phone" Luke said clinching his jaw reaching for it. i hit the end button and put it back on the night stand traumatized by thought of Daniel coming back to Leesburg.. "Luke.. What if he's here?" I asked looking over at him. "Darlin im sure he's not! I'll check the place out before I head home. Why don't you relax and get some shut eye its late" he said trying to reassure her. "I'll walk you down so I can lock the deadbolt" i said standing up walking towards the stairway. We walked down and I turned to look at Luke "i guess ill see you tomorrow?" I asked "for sure Ill call and let you know what time" he said smiling down at her before wrapping her in a hug. "See you then.." I whispered in his ear before letting go of the hug. She watched him walk down the driveway and circle the house before getting in his truck and driving off. Her phone buzzed in her back pocket it was a text from Luke *everything seems normal. Goodnight Kj😘* she smiled before replying *must've been nothing. Thanks for checking goodnight Luke😘* she replied as she walked back In her room to try and go to sleep.
•morning time•
I woke up around 8am to my mom calling to check on me after I hung up I went to take a shower and get ready for the day. I decided to leave my hair down today and put on some light makeup along with my daisy Dukes and a tank top, all what I normally wear Just these show off a little more than usual. I walked into my kitchen to grab a bite to eat before heading into town to meet up with my best friend Payton. Well I shouldn't say best friend cause me and are aren't anywhere as close as Luke and I. But she's my best friend when it comes to girls and I've known her since freshmen year, I pulled up to the little Park area where she was waiting with her little brother Tyson he has a baseball game today, He's 6 years old and has had a major crush on me since he was just a little tot. I closed my truck door an walked up and sat down by Payton. "so what's new?" She asked I smiled "nothing really same ole same ole" I said before getting tackled by a 6 year old. "Kenli! You're here" he said is a hurry which made me chuckle "yeah bud! I came to watch you play today!" I said smiling.

Lukes pov;
Today was my day off so I decided to spend it with Cayley, I'm suppose to
Pick her up in 15 minutes. I ran up the stairs from the basement which my room is in and out the door, I was at her house in no time she smiled as she answered the door "Luke!" she said smiling "are you ready darlin?" I asked taking her hand as she nodded yes. I lead her to the truck and opened her door for her before going around and getting in my side, she scooted over to the middle. This is the first time she's ever road in my truck "who's that?" She asked pointing to the picture I have up on my sun visor. "That's Kenli my best friend" Yes I have one of Kenli's senior picture up on my sun visor. "oh" she mumbled not sounding impressed. "I've known her since 2nd grade you have nothing to worry about" I said trying to reassure her. "You'll meet her tonight she'll be at dinner with us" I said shortly after. She looked up at me "she's coming to dinner tonight?" She asked softly "yeah I figured we'd kill two birds with one stone. She knows my family heck my Ma and Pa say she's one of they're own" I said before starting the truck and driving off she just looked straight ahead.. Something about that didn't feel right to me but I just shook it off. I looked up and Kj's picture and smiled knowing that she would be there tonight to make sure everything turned out just fine..
