Chapter 14

Luke

I was up early to go harvest with my dad, I slipped outta bed kissing Kj on her forehead before putting my jeans and shirt back on and walking out the door. I left the pistol on the night stand for her just in case she needed it. I walked around the house a few times shining my lights threw the woods just to see if I saw any sign of anyone which I didn't. I put my truck in gear and headed out towards my house.

Around lunch time I was able to call Kj and see how they were doing.

"Hey baby"

"Hey"

"Is everything goin okay?"

"Yeah we're fine, when do you get to come home baby I miss you"

"I miss you to darlin I'll be home as soon as I can I'm not sure exactly on the time" i said

"So do I make enough supper for you or not?"

"Go ahead and make some for me and I'll eat it when I can baby, I gotta go. I love you"

"I love you too" her sweet voice spoke

I hung up the phone finished my water and stuffed my sandwich down and got back to work my dad was waiting on me.

Kj

Mom left to go to work around 7ish I was still in bed when Kolb came and woke me up around 9. I didn't feel like getting outta bed but he was hungry and I knew if he attempted to get his own food there would be a big mess made. I got up out my hair in a pony tail and walked downstairs, I turned on some cartoons for him to watch while I went ahead and make some pancakes.

I made his favorite chocolate chip pancakes with whip cream on top.

"Kolb come eat bud it's ready!"

"Okay but sissy there was a black truck in the driveway just a minute ago"

I gulped when he said that.

"That's okay probably just someone turning around"

I set his milk down In front of him and walked out to the living room, there was no sight of a truck or anything for that matter. I made sure all the doors were locked and the curtains were closed, I walked upstairs and made sure everything was still closed, I grabbed the pistol Luke had brought and put it in my waistline of my shorts.

I walked back downstairs and Kolb was finishing his breakfast.

"What you say me and you go to the park today?"

"Yeah! Please can we?"

"Go on and get a shower and we'll go" I smiled

He ran off upstairs to get ready and I put his plate in the sink and washed it. I grabbed myself a apple and some toast and ate it for lunch. By the time we were about to leave Luke called and made sure we were okay. I missed him not being  here as crazy as that sounds, I guess I miss my protector.

I texted Luke that we were going to the park and Kolb came back downstairs. Basketball shorts and his cut off Luke had made him. I couldn't help but laugh. He looks up to Luke like no other. I'm glad he has a big brother figure in his life.

My mind wondered back to the day we told momma and Kolbi that we were officially dating. Momma was happy but Kolbi was super happy to finally have Luke as an actual brother so he put it.

"Sissy" he said snapping me out of my thoughts

"Yeah we're goin sorry bud"

I went and grabbed the keys and we walked out the front door to my truck. Kolbi sat up front this time, putting his seat belt on and putting in his favorite cd. It was a cd of Luke singing and Kolbi just loved it. Luke had burned it for me a few years ago and Kolbi grew to love it. Which I don't mind cause I love it too, hearing his voice come threw the speakers relaxed me.

We stopped at the local gas station and got drinks to take with us and then we went and found everyone at the park.

Kolbis best friend Hunter was here so that worked out great for Kolb.

I went and sat by a group of moms I knew from Kolbs school, they were all welcoming with smiles.

They all asked if it was true that me and Luke finally gave us a try and I couldn't help but laugh. I guess word in a small town really does get around, all though it doesn't help that Luke has pushed me up against the truck a few times turning into a make out session.

Luke

I couldn't wait to get off all this work was tiring but we weren't even close to being done for the day..

My mind kept wondering off to Kaelyn I still can't believe she's mine. After all these years I never knew how much she liked me. I smiled at the thought of her pretty brown eyes and wavy hair. I can't wait to get off and to go home and just kiss her an be with her..

I looked up at the clock and it was almost 5pm. A few more hours of work and we should be able to call it a night I Would hope.. When dust comes I'm gonna start worrying about Kaelyn and her family cause of Derik. I don't want him playing any sort of mind games with them while I'm gone.

My phone buzzed and it was a text from her saying they made it home from the park safely and she was about to start cooking supper. I told her that I loved her and would hopefully see her soon. But I had a weird gut feeling that something was going to happen and I didn't like it.

I decided to get ahold of my buddy Tj and see if he would swing by the house and camp out until I was able to get there.

After all these years I don't understand why Derik all of a sudden would start caring about her again and what she does.. It don't make no sense to me..

Tj told me he would go over there as soon as he got showered and got around. That made me feel better so I could start focusing on work again.

Kj

We got home and I cleaned up Kolbis skinned knee from playing basketball. It was pretty scraped up but he took it like a champ. My little brother is growing up..

He washed his face and got his pjs on and I let that slide instead of a shower for tonight. I walked downstairs and started stuff for supper.

I figured I would make fried chicken tonight for everyone. I got the flour and stuff out and ready to go before Kolb came downstairs and asked for Netflix on.

Once I turned his shows on I went and started supper. Momma should be home here in about an hour and Luke hopefully will be here soon too. I don't think I could sleep without him tonight.

"Sissy there's a black truck outside again" Kolb called from the living room.

I dropped the chicken in the flour trying to stay calm I made Kolbi come with me to my moms bathroom. Making sure all the doors were locked I put the gun in my waist of my shorts and went to join Kolb..
