Luke

We finished looking at the house and I could tell Kj fell in love with it. I couldn't wait to move in and get settled and start our life in Nash. We signed the papers they had for us and we were on our way to get lunch before my meeting with a record company.

"Mexican?"

"Sure" she smiled

We ate our lunch and then went to find the record label building.

Nashville was huge. It would definitely take a while to get use too..

"Nervous?" She asked

"A little" I smiled briefly

I found a place to park and then got my binder out with all my songs written in it. I wasn't sure which I was gonna sing first and which I was gonna sing last. They asked me to show them my three favorite songs and they interview would go from there. They heard me sing at a local bar a few weeks ago and then tracked me down for a interview.

I decided my songs I was gonna do. First love song, do I, rain is a good thing.

I made sure my guitar strings were good and on tune and them I stepped out and threw on my jean jacket and ball cap. It was 25 minutes until I was due to go in but I decided it would look better if I showed up early.

"You coming in with me?" I questioned

"If you want me too"

I nodded and held my hand out for her to grab as we walked in the front door. It was a big building, the bottom floor was set up fancy waiting chairs, a big desk behind a window to check in and then elevator or stairs to take to get to the recording studio and auditions.

Kj went and made herself comfortable on a big oversized chair and found a magazine with the local country stars on it. I laid my guitar down and walked up to the desk.

"Thomas Bryan here for the 4 o'clock interview"

"Got you checked in mr. Bryan, give mr. Layne a few moments and he'll come get you" she winked at me.

I nodded and walked back over to Kj. I was a nervous wreck but I knew with Kj and God on my side I would be okay..

"I love you" I whispered kissing her lips softly

"I love you Luke you'll do fine" she smiled

I smiled briefly before going over my papers. I got the songs in order and put them neatly in my guitar case. I straightened my collar and made sure my appearance was okay.

"Mr. Bryan" a mans voice called

I stood up and followed him to the elevator. I was more of a nervous wreck now then ever. I glanced back a Kj and she blew me a kiss. I took a deep breath and said a silent prayer before walking into the audition room.

There was a bar stool and a microphone set up and waiting. It was like a recording studio except the big boss' of the record label were in the same room.

"Show us what you got mr. Thomas Bryan we've heard good things about you" one of them said

"Call me Luke please and thank you, I'll try my best not to let you down" I smiled

I grabbed my guitar and put my song lyrics on the music stand and set on the stool. I took a deep breath and cleared my throat. I started strumming on 3 and then started in with "Do I"

"Do I turn you on at all when I kiss you baby
Does the sight of me wanting you drive you crazy
Do I have your love, am I still enough
Tell me don't I, or tell me do I, baby
Give you everything that you ever wanted
Would you rather just turn away and leave me lonely
Do I just need to give up and get on with my life
Baby, do I.."

I got through that song just fine without and mess ups that they knew of. They wrote something down in their pads and told me to continue on with my second song. I decided to do "first love song"

"Ridin' down the road listenin' to the radio
You leaned over and you turned it up
You said, "Baby this is it,
The one I wanted you to hear.
Don't it sound just like us?"
Up 'til then, all I'd ever listened to was
a little "Sweet Home..., " "Tuesday's Gone, "
and "Working Man Blues."
This is my first love song
First time I felt the words
First time I sang along
Whenever it comes on
I just think of you and everything you do
You're my one, my from-now-on
My first love song.."

They seems to enjoy that one a little bit better like it hit them harder in the heart.. I know it did me because I wrote it for Kj. I smiled as I started in on "Rain is a good thing" they enjoyed the rhythm it had I could tell.

"Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey
Whiskey makes my baby, feel a little frisky
Back roads are boggin' up, my buddies pile up in my truck
We hunt our hunnies down, we take 'em into town
Start washin' all our worries down the drain
Rain is a good thing
Ain't nothin' like a kiss out back in the barn
Ringin' out our soakin' clothes, ridin' out a thunderstorm
When the tin roof gets to talkin' it's the best love we've made
Yeah where I come from, rain is a good thing"

I finished with a strong ending and they wrote something else in their pads down. They all huddled in a circle and talked to themselves. I prayed for the best as I sat there nervously still but relieved I got through the songs without major mess ups.

"Well Thomas your voice is just as good as we hoped, if you work hard enough you could be Nashville biggest star yet!"

I was speechless I didn't know what exactly they meant. I just nodded

"Were pretty sure on our answer but if you would could you sing this here song we have and let us see how you sound with it" the older gentlemen said.

"S.. sure! I'd love too" I spoke nervous again

"We want you to look over it and put your own melody to it, we'll leave you here for a few moment to look over it" they said and handed me the papers before walking out..

I took a deep breath before opening the envelope the papers were in..
