Chapter 47 - Bad Luck

"She's going to be okay. So is he. Make that your new thought." I heard the voice of a woman.

I squinted my eyes open, just barely. The first thing I noticed was Jack J sitting on the bench of the truck- er, ambulance, I think. A paramedic was right next to him. The second thing I noticed was Jack in a bed next to me.

Despite whatever was wrong with me, I broke into tears looking at him.

His head was wrapped up, he was wearing an oxygen mask, blood covered his arm. There was more, but I couldn't lift my head to see.

"Paige?" Jack J jumped up. "Are you okay? Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I'm sorry." He wiped his eyes and kneeled down next to the bed I was in. He picked up my hand and looked at me. "I'm so sorry." I noticed the scratch on his head.

The paramedic stood up and checked a few things with me. I could feel some type of wrap around my head as well, and it felt like all my bones had been broken. I then noticed the sound of the ambulance siren outside.

"It's not your fault." I tried to shake my head, but I couldn't even lift it or move. I don't even know if he heard me.. My voice was so hoarse.

A tear came out of his eye.

Jack J's POV:

That wonderful smile that I'm so used to was unable to reach her face. Blood was dripping out of the bandage on her head, making me cry even more. This is my fault. That was a stupid game. Why did I suggest that? Why am I so stupid?

I glanced back at Jack, who wasn't even awake. I think the only reason he was breathing was because of the oxygen mask that wrapped around his face. My fault. My fault. My fault.

I would do anything to take their place right now.

Paige's POV:

I felt dizzy and like I hadn't slept in days upon days. Slowly, I started to close my eyes.

For what felt like a few seconds later I was awoken by a loud beeping sound. Jack J was crying, like I'd never seen. The woman was frantically moving around, trying not to wobble over. Everything was moving so slowly, and it was all blurry. I looked over at Jack.

That's when I realized he wasn't breathing.
