"Wait.. What do you mean? Why?" I felt a knot in my stomach.
"I wish I could tell you everything. I really wish I could." She bowed her head. "I basically risked my life at the maximum to come and tell you this. Stay away from him."
Risked her life? What's that suppose to mean? That Nash actually has the potential to murder her?
"But.. Why? What happened?" I said, more confused than I've ever been in my life.
"This is chaos." She closed her eyes for a moment, as if she were thinking. "I had no idea that when we met it'd turn out like this. Paige.. He's insane."
"This doesn't make any sense!" I felt like crying. "Who the hell was in that casket?"
"I was." She shook her head, looking down.
Shivers ran up and down my arms and legs. "W-wait.. You mean to tell me that you watched your family cry over your death and give speeches about you while you were still alive?"
"That's not how it went down. I was drugged somehow by someone, and I think it was Nash. I woke up in that casket, screaming." She gulped as if it were physically painful to tell the story. "I sat in there for 2 hours.. 2 hours thinking I was dead. I could hear the dirt moving around me outside of the casket. I heard the shovel scratching the top. I heard muffled voices, and then I got knocked out again. Or at least, I think? I can't recall what happened during that time. It's like I was unconscious."
I took in her words, feeling sick. "Then- who was in the car crash?" I asked.
"Me." She replied. She slowly moved up her blonde hair to reveal a scar on the tip of her hairline.
"Then how did they say you were dead?"
"There's something wrong with the police in Omaha. Something horribly wrong." She shook her head once more.
"So what? Are they all just-" There was a knock on the window. Ava basically jumped out of her seat and his under a blanket before she could see who it was. I jumped too, but I rolled down my window once I saw who it was.
"Hi." I said shakily.
"Did you follow me here?" Cameron joked. "And who's that?" He tried looking in the backseat. "She looks a little like Ava." He whispered.
I about threw up. "I guess she does. She's really sick.. Doesn't want to talk." I whispered.
"Oh.. Funny." He scoffed. I could've sworn I saw a slight smile upon his face.
"See you around?" He held up his ice cream cone.
"Yeah..." I nodded. "See ya." He walked away and into his car, driving away. I looked back at Ava. She wouldn't sit up.
"Ava!" I said. "He's gone."
She put her head back up. I noticed tears coming from her eyes, and she was shaking uncontrollably.
"Woah, what's wrong?" I watched her wipe her tears on her flannel. Just after, she continued to cry.
"You just don't get it."
"Get what?" I choked on my words.
"It's not just Nash. It's Cameron, too."
"You're scaring me." Tears arose to my eyes.
"That's not even the worst part, Paige." She rubbed her eye. "Jack is helping them."
