I took the little silver ring out and examined it, almost bursting into tears. This ring belonged to Ava. It had her name engraved on the inside. I remember the day we picked it up.
"Get me one for my birthday too!" I said, walking with Ava into Tiffany's.
"They're so expensive. I'm surprised my grandparents even got one before they sold out." She looked at the sparkling rings as we walked to the front desk.
"Hi, how can I help?" A light pigmented lady with short blonde hair smiled at us.
"I'm here to pick up my ring, my name was engraved into it."
"Name?"
"Ava."
"Oh yes! I remember you. I'll go grab that ring." She nodded then walked back into the storage room.
"How much is the one they got for you?" I asked.
"Like, 1,000$. It's sort of like a graduation present I guess. I can't wait to show you." She tapped her pink fingernails on the glass.
"Here you go!" She handed Ava the tiniest blue bag I've ever seen.
"Thank you so much." She smiled.
"Have a nice day, girls."
"You too!" We both said in sync, walking out of the store. We stood on the sidewalk as she took it out of the bag.
The little box was light blue. She slowly opened it, smiling when the little diamond sparkled in the January sun.
"I'm never taking it off." She whispered. Her bright eyes were in a stage of admiration, and I couldn't help but admire that.
Suddenly, I heard the front door in the living room open. I frantically put the box back where it was and set it on the shelf. I climbed on top of the bed, trying to act casual.
"Hey." Jack smiled, setting a backpack down on the floor below the nightstand.
"Hi.." I forced a half smile.
"You.. okay?" He raised his eyebrow.
I nodded, feeling like I was talking to a killer. He could be a killer. He sat down next to me on the bed and rubbed my shoulder. I almost flinched when he touched me. I felt an uneasy feeling growing inside of my stomach. I had to bring the issue up. I had to.
"Jack." I looked at him.
"Yeah?" He looked back.
"Would you ever do anything to hurt me?"
"You know the answer to that question Paige." He rubbed his eye.
"I'm not so sure that I do." I looked down at the striped pattern on our comforter.
"What? No! I wouldn't hurt you, I don't know why you'd ever be confused about something like that. Did I do something wrong?"
He sounded concerned but I couldn't tell if he was faking it or not. I can't tell him about the ring. I mean, I can, but I'm already so nervous. What if he does something to me or tells Nash or Cameron? Ava has my head messed up. The other half of me is considering that she's gone bonkers and my friends are still my friends and my boyfriend is still my boyfriend, not a bunch of psychos out to get me or Ava.
"No.. It's fine. I was just asking." I shrugged.
"Are you sure everything's okay?" He looked at me. When I looked into his eyes, I wanted to pull some truth out of them. Anything I say or do can lead to clues.
"Do you ever think Ava could still be alive?" I blurted. I didn't know what else to say or how else to get answers without being too straightforward.
He looked at me like I'd just stabbed someone. "N-No..? Why?"
"Don't look at me like I'm crazy." I defended.
"Sorry.. I just don't know what you're getting to."
"I'm just asking you questions. It's better not to question me tonight." I ran my fingers through my hair.
"I've already asked this, I know, but did something like, happen while I was gone? You're not acting like yourself."
I almost started laughing. Why would I be acting like myself? I'm not even sure that Ava's alive, maybe I'm seeing her ghost. Maybe I'm talking to a psycho person who's trying to convince me that everyone else is psycho. But you know what scares me most? She might actually be telling the truth.

OH MY GOODNESS. I'm so sorry. I broke my phone last week and my parents refuse to get me a new one. I've been waiting to see if I could get my phone fixed because it had all my chapter drafts on it and now they're completely gone and I had to totally restart... on the COMPUTER. I'm not even sure how it's going to look for you guys on your phones, but it looks relatively okay on the computer... So yeah. That's why I've been gone. I'm sorry! More chapters coming up. I feel so weird typing this on the computer though. Tell me if it looks alright.
