I let them in. Immediately, Jack and Jack greeted them. After saying hello, I was a little confused on why and what the heck they were doing.

"Wait so you guys literally just flew out here to surprise me?" I asked.

"Yes, that and for Jill and Gregg's wedding! We're going to be staying at a hotel in Santa Monica, but of course you were our first stop." My dad smiled.

I hugged them both again. "I feel like I haven't seen you guys in forever." Something about hugging them made me think of Omaha and how much I really miss it. Omaha makes me think of Ava though, and I get nervous every time the thought of her crosses my mind. When will be the next time that I even see her? I felt like confessing to my parents, but a knot formed in my stomach when I realized I couldn't. I didn't want her to get hurt.

"So what's up with you guys?" My mom asked. They set their suitcases against the wall and sat on the couch.

"Nothing much." I shrugged, sitting on the arm of the couch. I glanced at Jack J, who was looking at me like I was insane. Why would I tell them I just witnessed someone die? They'd prove the point about LA being unsafe and lecture me about moving back to Omaha. It's not what I want.

"Do you guys want something to eat? Are you hungry?" I asked.

"Sure!" My dad said eagerly.

"Yeah we haven't ate in a few." My mom nodded.

I got up and walked into the kitchen as my parents talked to Jack and Jack. I looked in the fridge, which consisted of pickles, bread, bagels, milk, eggs, and some drinks that I probably would get yelled at for having in the fridge.

I then checked the cupboards. All we have is random snacks. I hardly ever cook, and neither do Jack and Jack- so we eat out most the time.

"Uhh maybe we should just go to a restaurant or something. We're not the best at having food in the house." I grinned innocently.

"Nonsense! Let me see what you have!" My mom stood up. Jack looked at me with wide eyes. She can't find those drinks.

I stood in front of the fridge. "No, no, um it's just gross stuff, hehe!" I stood myself right in front of the fridge.

"No, let me see!" She reached for the fridge handle, and that's when I heard the piercing sound of glass breaking in the living room. My mom and I both jumped.

I looked over at Jack J, who was looking at the plate he just shattered on the ground. "Oh no." He said. Jack was trying not to laugh.

"Oh my god!" My mom held her hand over her heart. "Let me help you." She ran into the front room and began picking up broken pieces of glass. I grabbed a bag from under the sink and helped as well. When my mom wasn't looking, I mouthed the words thank you to Jack J.

"Okay, well I really have to be somewhere soon so do you guys want to go to my favorite restaurant? You'll love it." I said.

"Yeah, that sounds good to me!" My dad said.

"Okay, I agree." My mom nodded.

////

"This is spectacular." My mom took a bite of her filet mignon, which was sprinkled with the most heavenly seasoning.

"Yeah, I've never had steak this good." My dad shook his head.

"Told you it's pretty great." I took a bite of the salted and baked veggies on my plate. Delicious.

"So who's Jill and Gregg?" Jack asked.

"Oh just some friends, I used to work with Gregg. They've been dating for 7 years and they're finally getting married." My dad said.

"7 years?" Jack J rose an eyebrow.

"It's not too lengthy. They just made sure that they found the right person I guess." My mom shrugged.

"I'll marry Paige as soon as I can." Jack said.

My dad stopped chewing for a moment, and stared at Jack.

"You're not getting married soon are you?" He glanced at both of us.

I blushed and began laughing. "No, dad."

"I meant when the time is right I'll make her mine. For good." Jack got a little shy and looked at his plate.

"Break her heart and you'll be sorry, son." My typical father said. I kicked his leg under the table and he looked at me.

"What?" He said.

"Huh?" I pretended like I didn't do anything.

 He shrugged and continued eating.

"I won't break her heart." Jack smirked at me.

"So you guys sleep in the same bed?" My dad spoke. He has absolutely no filter for what he says. Suddenly, I wanted to run away and never come back to this conversation topic ever againEspecially because Jack J was with us.

"John!" My mom laughed.

I decided to speak up and be open rather than being shy, because I'm always shy. "Yes we do!" I smiled. Jack and Jack laughed to themselves.

My dad nodded. "No funny business, right?"

"Lots of funny business." I smiled.

He looked at me. "What do you mean, Paige?"

"So mom, how's Amanda?" I quickly changed the conversation, causing everyone to giggle to themselves. Except my dad.

"Oh, she's doing better these days, really. She took Ava's room and made it into her office. I think it's a big milestone for her, because it took a lot of strength for her to do that."

My heartbeat sped up. I felt horribly awful, and my palms began to itch. I wanted to tell her so bad that Ava is alive. She's hiding from someone. But she is indeed alive. I wanted to tell her to call Amanda. To tell her not to cry anymore. To put Ava's room back together because she might come home..

But I can't.
