Chapter 48: Destruction

Green lightning crashed into desert sand as Snatch dragged as many people as he could to the outskirts of the city. So many had already died. Hundreds crushed by rubble and the stampede of frightened city folk, swallowed up by the hot sands, or simply beaten to death by looters. Snatch was too busy on the outside of the city to notice all the destruction.

"Get to the other side of the town wall!" Ikari shouted. She only had two lightning strikes left.

Demonic monsters crawled out from the shadows in front of the champion but she stood her guard. Green energy crackled between her fingers as she raised her right arm. Her fingers snapped and the lightning struck her hand but stayed locked in place.

"Thunderclap!" She clapped her hands together and a massive surge of electrical energy shattered the golems in front of her. However, there were plenty more of them all over the city and she only had one charge left.

'If there was a thunderstorm, this would be over in an instant.' She thought, panting. A baby golem rummaged around near a wooden crate. Ikari kicked it as she ran past and it crumbled upon impact.

"Barely worth my time." She thought, turning the corner to the plaza. Female furies were fighting off the golems with metal poles and wooden sticks - whatever they could get their hands on helped.

"Lady Ikari!" One of them shouted before being shot down by a scarlet laser. A more developed creature obviously made it onto a roof.

Ikari jumped onto a large spruce crate and heaved herself up onto the rooftop, throwing a stick to grab its attention. She weaved around its deadly attacks as if she was dancing while waiting for a chance to strike. As one of the lasers went by, she noticed that it ricochet off of a metal pole.

"Soldier!" She shouted down to one of the fighters down below. "Your weapon!"

Ikari grabbed the metal pole and rolled out of the laser's path before throwing the weapon like a javelin right into its face. After it disintegrated, another further developed monster appeared.

"Mouths all over its body? Seriously?" Almost everyone was already out of town, so the champion could release one of her deadliest moves.

Lightning struck her hand and she held it outwards, creating a dagger of some kind with her nails. She dove forward and sliced the monster's head off in one go. No more charges left.

Dark clouds formed in the distance, possibly from her thunderclap, but they were too far away to draw energy from. For now, she had to wait.

"Everyone is safe and all of those...things...have been destroyed." Takeshita sighed.

"Good work." Maisha was about to finish his sentence but something burst through the ground like a boiling geyser, the force of which threw Takeshita backwards.

"Help the people!" Maisha shouted. "I'll take care of this!" He created a wall of glowing water between him and the strangely humanoid opponent made from water.

"I have to fight water?!" The humanoid creature pushed against the wall but screamed in pain and slithered backwards.

"The hell?" Maisha was too busy thinking about what he was fighting that he didn't even notice the torrent of blackened water plunging into his ribs. He tumbled along the ground, eventually stopping himself, but the barrage of water continued. He created a dome to defend himself but the dome itself turned black, corrupted by malice. It turned on Maisha and swarmed him. As soon as he touched it, the water turned back to normal.

"We're opposites, aren't we?" Maisha stumbled back up to his feet before being knocked down again. He stretched a hand out and touched the second barrage of corrupted water. It glowed a brilliant golden colour and returned to normal as well.
