** Saturday **"Cameron, wake up." I nudge him early in the morning. He stirs and opens his eyes.
"This is an ungodly hour, Leighton, what do you want?" He complains, hiding his eyes from the sunlight getting in. "How the hell did you get in here anyway?"
"Your mom let me in. Get up, I want to do something today." I say, shaking him by his shoulders. I move my lips close to his ears and whisper, "I don't wanna have to make you get up." I kiss his ear lightly and remove myself from the bed. A smile appears on his face as he untucks his arms from under the covers.
"Well now I definitely don't want to get up." I giggle and pull on his sheets.
"Come on, I'm in the mood to look at dogs."
"Who looks at dogs anymore?"
I scrunch my eyebrows and give him a puzzled look. "Everyone in America, Cameron." He laughs and tosses the cover halfway off of his body.
"What else do you want to do, Amelia Earhart?" I give him a fake laugh and roll my eyes.
"The doctor, and your mother, both agree you should stop being a lazy fuck boy and get up. Move around, you know?"
He sits up and tilts his head to the side, face as solid as a rock. "Did you just call me a fuckboy?"

"Aw, look at him, he's so cute! Isn't he cute, Cam." I urge as I look at a baby black lab in a cage with a bunch of his brothers and sisters. I dragged him to the humane society so I could look for dogs. No, I haven't talked about it with my mom, yet. But ever since my dad called, things have been dull around, and a dog would definitely bring a little light to a dark tunnel.
"He's alright," he shrugs down at me. "He's too small, Leighton."
"Well he'd grow, debby downer." I nudge him and walk over to another cage. "I like that one." Cam asks the lady at the desk to bring him out. When she puts him in my hand, he's barely any bigger. He wimpers before playfully biting at my thumb. I laugh and look at Cameron, whose eyes aren't on the dog, but already on me. He stares down at me with such a glimmer in his eye, I think he's about to cry. But he doesn't. His eyes search for my face. It's like he's looking for something. I'm not quite sure what, but he's definitely looking for something. "What?" I laugh, unknowingly.
He shakes his head, still searching wonderlessly around my face.
"Cameron."
"What?"
"Why are you staring at me like that?"
He laughs, taking his eye off of me and removing his arm from around my waist, which I didn't even know was there in the first place. "No reason, Leighton. Go look at some more dogs," he shrugs to another cage nonchalantly. I stare at him for about 10 seconds before walking over to a cage full of german shepards. A small but hyper one jumps over all of his buddies. He has a blue bone shaped collar that says Charlie. I slide my finger through the cage hole and he nibbles at it, playfully.
"You like that one?" Cameron asks, standing over me. I nod and smile, looking back at the puppy. He asks the woman behind the counter to get it.
"Wait, what are you doing?" I stand to my feet, dusting myself off.
"You said you wanted that one."
"No, Cameron, I said I liked that one. You can't buy it for me."
"Babe," he puts his hand up. "It's fine. You want the dog, I'm getting you the dog."
The woman hands me the dog and he falls into my hands, licking my cheek. I smile and look into his eyes. So innocent. And sweet.
Charlie.
