*A Few Weeks Later*

"We should go on another date." Cameron suggests, playing with my hair as I'm sprawled across his lap.

"Another date?" I laugh, looking away from the TV and into his eyes.

"Yeah, something special. I mean, our anniversary is coming up soon, right?"

I ponder for a minute. I think it is, but I was never one of those people to make anniversary dates in relationships. I thought it was important in marriage, but not in high school relationships.

"What? What are you thinking about?" He asks out of curiosity.

"What?" I pull away from my thoughts. "Oh, nothing. What do you plan on doing for this oh-so-special anniversary date?" I smile, sitting up and putting my knee on this thigh.

"That," his index finger pokes my petite nose as he grins, "I cannot tell you. I can say, though, that it will be the best date we've ever been on." He winks and goes in for a kiss but my finger stops his lips.

"Cam, I hate surprises. Like, with a passion." I pout.

He kisses my finger lightly, "You're going to love this one, I promise." He removes my finger and pecks my lips softly. A groan escapes his lips. I smile and wrap my arms around his neck as his hands guide my body closer to his.

"Cameron!" His mom calls from upstairs. He groans on my lips and I can feel his facial expression change. I laugh and pull away.

"I have to go home anyways, my mom's probably about to make dinner." I get up, grab my purse and put my shoes on. He gets up and follows me to the door.

"Should I-"

"CAMERON!"

"Jesus Christ MOM HOLD ON!" He yells back, a bit annoyed. I can't help but giggle to myself. "Shut up," he chuckles, too.

"I'll be fine, I'll take an uber." I place my hand on his shoulder and kiss his cheek. "I'll call you later, okay?" He smiles and I walk out.

Once I get home, I go straight to the couch and join Collin. My mom dances to old music while cooking homemade lasagna in the kitchen. My brother looks over at me with a weird expression.

"What?" I ask, looking back at him.

"Why are you smiling?" I arch my eyebrows and feel my face, making me smile even harder.

"I didn't notice," I mumble back quietly thinking nobody heard me.

"She's in love, Collin." My mom shouts over the music from the kitchen. I roll my eyes and smile once more, this time so no one notices. "Leave her alone." She mumbles before taking a sip of wine.

I watch her, confused. I get up and walk into the kitchen. "Why are you so happy?"

She smiles and takes another sip of wine. She grabs my hand and pulls me further into the kitchen. She lowers her voice while moving closer to me and squeezing my hands. "I met someone."

I'm about to reply but she cuts me off. "Don't say anything. Especially not to Collin, he will freak out. I don't want you guys thinking this is something yet."

I can't help but be happy for her. I pull her into my embrace, squeezing her tight. Once I tug away, I ask, "Who is he? How'd you meet him? Is he hot?"

"Leighton," she says, surprised.

"What?" I laugh. "If he's anything like-"

"He's not, Leighton. I promise, you will never have to go through anything like that again." I hug her again, this time for a long time. And for a while, I think about not letting go. Because I love this feeling. Being connected to my mom like this. And somehow, her being happy makes me happy. And I don't want that to end.

"Is everything okay, honey?" She questions in a concerned voice.

I smile, eyes closed, and reply confidently.

"I'm fine."
