"You can't just go around punching people in the face!" My mother yells in the drivers seat of her car. I was forced to leave my car at school. My mom's upset because she had to get off of work, which means less money. Her face is spilling red, and her eyes are full of fury. "Leighton, I'm so disappointed!"

"Get used to it, mom." I mumble, looking out of the window. She's acting like she's never hated anyone. I sure as hell hate Clarity's guts right now. My neck and spine tingle a little. The guard apologized for shocking me, but I sort of gave him a death glare. I have ISS for 2 days, since it's my first offense.

The only thing I care about, though, is what I said to Cameron. I can't even think of why I would say something to him. Why would he even help me if I just blew up on him.

"Leighton!" My mother voice pulls me out of my thoughts.

"What?"

"I'm talking to you."

"I obviously wasn't listening."

She stomps on the brakes and looks at me. It wouldn't matter that we've stopped in the middle of the road. We're nowhere important, anyway. "I'm tired of this. I'm tired of your disrespect. Shit happens! But I don't need you acting like a child competing for my attention! I've tried and tried to keep you happy, but I'm not about to sit here and be disrespected by my own daughter." She sounds like me when I was pissed with Cameron. "You're going to stay 16, and I'll stay my age. You're not a grown woman! And trust me, you don't want to be! You're grounded, that's it. I'll be driving you to school for the rest of the week. Since you want to act like a child, I'll treat you like one." She hits the accelerator, making the car move again.

"Mom, that's not fair."

"Life isn't fair. Cry me a river, build a damn bridge, and get over it." That sure as hell shuts me up. I've never heard my mom yell at me like that. It's like she was talking to my dad.

I don't talk to her for the rest of the night. I isolate myself in my room, with music blaring, and phone plugged into the wall. I consider skipping school tomorrow, but remember that's 3 days OSS, and I don't need that. I don't even want to ask my mom how long I'm grounded for. I know she'll probably get mad at me for no reason, and send me back to my room. I take a shower for about 45 minutes, washing my hair for about 20 minutes, and stall under the warm water for the rest of the 20 minutes. When I get out of the shower, I slip on some fluffy volleyball shorts, a blue tank top, and a black cardigan.

I'm just happy my mom didn't take my phone. I check my phone and see an unknown number on my screen. By the message, it could only be Cameron.

*Im sorry about what happened today

-Cameron

*Leave me alone

-Leighton

*Can we meet somewhere?

-Cameron

*Grounded

-Leighton

*Sneak out?

-Cameron

*Im not risking getting in more trouble for you

-Leighton

Next thing I know, he's calling me. I sigh, looking at my phone. I let it ring about 4 times before I answer. "What do you-"

"Can we talk?"

"We don't need to. You're trouble, I shouldn't even be friends with you."

He sighs. The line goes silent. "Well..." He finally speaks. "I just want to apologize."
