We get into the restaurant and get seated. They manage to get a bunch of tables and put them together, forming a much larger one. I kind of feel bad because Jack expects to sit next to me but when Cameron does, he sits across from me, looking more disappointed than ever. He shoots me a confused look, pretending to be looking at his menu. I argue with him with my eyes before looking at the selection of food.
Cameron's hand lands on my thigh and I look at him. A content smile is planted on his face as he views the menu. I feel my lips curling upwards when I glance over to see what I want to eat. The server, a girl, probably in her early twenties, walks up to us with a pen and a pad of paper. Her eyes glance around at all the attractive boys but somehow stop when they find Cameron. I clench his hand tightly, letting her know he's mine. Her lips slide downward as she opens her mouth to speak.
"What happened to you?" Eyes fall onto Cameron as the table gets quiet. Cameron looks up and around absentmindedly.
When he finally figures out the commotion is because of him, he speaks. "Oh, car accident."
She bites her lip and pretends to be sad. "I'm so sorry." He quickly smiles before returning his eyes to the menu. I feel myself smiling from triumph. It seems like Cameron's always been one to pay a girl attention, but now all he cares about is paying me attention. Annoyed about this, the waiter looks away. "Can I start you off with some drinks?" We all order our drinks and she looks at Cameron once before walking off.
I rub the top of Cam's hand with my thumb. "Hey, you okay?" I whisper clsoe to his jawline. He smiles and nods, replying with a yes. "Okay, I'm gonna go to the bathroom." I'm about to push myself out of my seat, but he grips my hand and pulls me in for a kiss on the cheek. I grin, although I'm confused, and walk away.
After washing my hands, I push the door open to leave but bump into another figure and fall to the ground. "Fuck." I mumble, looking around to see if I dropped anything. I dust myself off and look up to see Dylan.
"Sorry," he mumbles to himself. "Sorry that was my fault." He hasn't seen me yet, so he probably won't be as sorry once he does. He glances down and catches my eye, stopping in his place. We stare at each other, listening to commotion around us. People rushing to get food out, lovers talking amongst themselves.
He reaches his hand out, out of courtesy, and helps me up before helping wipe off any dirt stains on my body. "We have to stop meeting like this." He smiles, cheeks a bit pink. I smile too, and look down. My eyes fall upon what he's wearing.
"You .. work here?" I ask.
He looks down on himself like he forgot he was even wearing any clothes. "Oh, ha, yeah. I'm usually working on the night shift but ... yeah I work here." He stops a story before it starts. We stand there in awkward silence, waiting for one another to do something, but nothing's done. I'm about to tell him goodbye, when he cuts me off. "Leighton, I'm so sorry."
I dust myself off and laugh. "It's my fault really, I wasn't paying attention to-"
"No, about the kiss. And what I said. I was just mad. I really like ... liked you and I guess I was just being an ass about it. But I don't want us to end badly. I still want to skate with you, and hang out when I can, and not feel like a total douche every time we run into each other," he laughs. "Which seems to be more often than I thought."
I giggle and pull hair behind my ears. "Yeah, you were a douche." He frowns. I smile and punch his arm playfully. "I totally forgive you, though." He smiles and punches me back. "I have to go, but we should hang out sometime, okay?"
"Yeah, sure." And with that, he walks off. And I don't feel so bad anymore. Another one of my burdons lifted off of my chest. One less person I have to be mad at. I start to walk off when I see the waiter who served us walking past me. She glares at me then bumps me, and in an instant, all of our drinks fall to the ground and some spill on her.
"Look what you did!" She barks at me, grabbing the attention of some people in the restaurant.
I arch my eyebrows, confused. "You bumped me, it's not my fault you're clumsy."
"Well you just spilled your drinks, so you might wanna lick it up because I'm not getting anymore." My fist is about to connect with her face when suddenly, a hand yanks my wrist back. My eyes dart towards the owner, and I see Dylan giving me the 'don't do it' look.
I turn and see the girl being talked to by what I assume to be the manager. He's saying things like "you can't keep doing this" and "I get it but..."
Frowning, she turns to me and sticks out her hand. "I'm sorry, ma'am. Appetizers and desert are on the house." My eyes fall upon her name tag. Isabelle.
I shake loose from Dylan's grasp and shake her hand. "Thanks..." I mumble.
Cameron jealously pushes past Dylan and grabs my hands, intertwining our fingers. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I murmur. I look back at Dylan who stands there with a red face. He stares at Cameron for about 3 seconds before walking off. I drag my eyes to Cam and speak quietly, walking back to the table. "You didn't have to push him."
"He didn't have to grab you like that." I roll my eyes and look away.
After we get our food, we all start heading out. Cameron grabs my hand but I pull away without thinking. I laugh, trying to play it off as he shoots me a weird / confused look. "I'll meet you in the car, okay?" I hand him my keys. He stares at me for several seconds before scoffing and walking away on his crutches.
I sigh and let my shoulders drop, running a hand through my hair. I wait a couple minutes before I see Dylan walking out with a tray full of drinks. I stop him after he delivers them.
"Hey," I speak softly, laying my hand on his arm.
"Oh, hey, I thought you left." He smiles.
"I'm about to, actually. I just wanted to say sorry, for what happened."
He inhales quietly and smirks. "Seems like we always have drama, doesn't it?" He spins around on his heels slowly before walking off.
The way he said that sent chills down my spine. It was like it's all so pathetic to him. Like it's not worth it. Like, I'm a waste of time to him ...
