I wake up to the sun shining in my face and my 1975 record playing softly. I feel for Cameron beside me, but only find an empty space. My eyes flutter open as my pupils adjust to the light. I must've fallen asleep early.

I sit up and notice a bag of McDonalds with a note attached it. I snatch it off and read it.

Hey buttercup, I didn't want to wake you. But I left a little early. I got you breakfast, though. I'm free, if you want to hang out. I want to take you somewhere, if you don't mind. Call me when you get up.

Love, Cameron.

I smile and put the note next to the bag. After eating breakfast, I shower and slip on my black and white flower kimono, black tank top, high waisted shorts, and black Jordans. I call Cameron as I walk downstairs.

He picks up after a few rings. "Hello?"

"Hey you."

I can practically hear him smile as I speak to him. "Hey, did you just wake up?"

"No, I woke up a while ago. I just got out of the shower."

"Hm," he murmurs lowly.

"What? What's wrong?"

"Nothing," he chuckles. "Are you free to see me?"

"I'm always free to see you."

He pauses for a moment, shuffling things in the background. "Okay, dress nice."

"How nice?" I ask.

"Um ... just nice. Fancy, maybe?"

I giggle. "Okay? Should I ask why?"

"No!" He shouts into the phone, equally shouting into my eardrum and bursting it on the spot. "I'm sorry, no. I - I can't tell you. It's a surprise. I'll pick you up around 1, okay?"

"Okay."

After hanging up, I go back upstairs to change. I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to dress, so I put on a blue floral skater dress and black Jeffrey Campbell heels. Then, I do my makeup, a subtle, but still noticeable look. After that, I walk back downstairs and see my brother in his usual spot, rummaging through the fridgerator for food. He sees me and his eyes immediately go wide.

"What ... are you wearing? And why are you wearing it?"

I roll my eyes and stuff my purse with money. "I'm going on a date." Then, I stop and think. Cameron never told me where we were going, so I can't really say it's a date. "I think?"

"With ... um .. what's his name? Carter?"

"Cameron. Collin, it's Cameron. Seriously, be nice." I say, poking earrings in my ears. "He'll be here around one."

He groans and plops on the couch. "Did you tell mom?" I shake my head, but pull out my phone to do so. "Well I guess it's about time I formally met this guy."

"Please be nice, Collin-" I start, but he stops me, putting a hand up and cutting me off.

"Okay, okay. I'll be nice, jeez mom."

Around 12:45, Cameron's car pulls into our driveway. I hear him close his door, but my heart's too busy jumping out of my chest, so I run to the door and swing it open. I don't know why I'm so excited. I've been on plenty of dates with Cameron, but I just feel like this one will be different. Like this one will be better, or more special than the rest. He's going out in public and showing me off, and I like the idea of that.

I throw my arms around his neck and giggle as he takes me into his embrace, almost falling over.

"Hey you," he speaks into my neck before kissing it. "I got a little nervous, so I came early." I giggle and tell him it's okay. Once I pull away, I grab his hand and lead him into my house.

"Someone wants to meet you." I mumble, letting my brother know this is his time to be nice. Or at least pretend to be nice.

He stands to his feet and eyes Cameron up and down.

"Hey," Cameron greets, sticking his hand out, waiting for it be accepted.

Collin glares at it like he just dug in his pants and asked him to lick off dirt or something. I give him a low growl and he shakes Cameron's hand.

"What time are you gonna have her home?"

"Around 10?" I'm taken back by the time. I only expected lunch, but he's obviously giving me much more.

Collin nods and stares down at me. The ends of his lips turn up into a devilish grin as he holds his arms out. I shake my head repeating no but he keeps smiling and saying yes, yes, yes. I roll my eyes and go in to hug him. I hear Cameron say, I'll be outside, but I don't want him to go. I want to punch my brother in his lower gut and run out of this house. But I don't. Instead, I hear Cameron exit, walking away with any freedom he could've granted me.

Once he's gone, Collin lets go quickly, wiping his chest like I'm infected or something. "Ten o'clock? Is he serious? Come on, Leighton."

"Collin, I didn't know. And you're one to talk, you left for a day without even telling me."

He bites the inside of his cheek and sits back on the couch. "You better be back by then..."
