I get home and find my brother still missing. I guess I shouldn't say missing if I know where he is. Well, technically, I know who he's with, but I don't know where he is. Either way, he better have his keys and not come home at 1 in the morning when I'm trying to sleep.
I do as told and order a pizza. Since I don't like talking on the phone with strangers, I order it offline. I get a large sausage and cheese pizza with wings and soda. It may be a lot, but then again, I eat a lot. In the box for added notes, I put 'send your cutest delivery boy' as a joke. I think I've been doing it for as long as I can remember. I close my laptop and turn on my TV.
About 20 minutes later, my doorbell rings. I get the money from the counter and go to the door. When I swing it open, I see a boy with white hair. He's about 6'1 and really skinny. He has his hands full with my food and he smiles to play off the fact that he's struggling. I smile and take the food from him.
"Sorry," I murmur.
He smiles, showing his perfectly aligned teeth. "It's not your fault. I get twice as that in one night." We laugh and I pull out the money.
"Um, keep the change." He smiles and takes my money. His face twitches for a moment, before looking away. "What?"
"Nothing ... you just, you look really familiar."
"Seems like I get that a lot."
He chuckles and puts the money in his manly fanny pack. "You go to my school."
"I do?" It's amazing I've never seen him. You could spot him from a mile away with that hair color.
"Well, my old school. I moved somewhere else." He checks his watch then starts skipping back to his car. "Hey I have to go, but maybe I'll see you later?"
"Yeah, sure!" I smile and respond. "Hey what's your name?!"
Once his hand's on the door handle, he stops and looks at me. "Kian. Kian Lawley." He answers professionally, then gets in his car and drives off. I close my door and stare longlingly at it. When I said send a cute delivery boy, I was kidding. I didn't think they would actually take it into consideration.
Once I get my barrings, I sit down and turn on Netflix after getting my food. I get a text from Collin saying he'll be back in the morning. Right about now, I don't care though. He never goes out for days and never tells me where he is. He knows I worry about him. Since before my dad acted the way he did, I always told him to check up on me.
I call Cameron and ask him to come over. At first, he tells me he has homework and he really needs to finish, but I end up bribing him with pizza. The wing deal is what wins him over.
*Later*
Cameron and I are in my room watching Psych on Netflix as we gobble down food. I get stuffed after about 4 pieces of pizza, but Cam's still going. I groan and put my plate on the floor, feeling as stuffed as a turkey on Thanksgiving.
"Come on, lightweight, you didn't finish your crust." He complains, grabbing my plate and helping himself to the leftover crust.
"I don't like crust," I reply, rubbing my belly like I'm pregnant or something. "I love how you're helping yourself to my food." I laugh, grabbing the remote and turning the volume up. He snatches the remote from my hand and starts tickling me. I scream and giggle as he mounts himself on top of me, taking control. I laugh uncontrollably as I try to push him off, but he overpowers me.
"Okay! Okay Cameron, stop now!" I yell through laughs. He chuckles and removes himself.
"I'll help myself to your crust if I please, woman." I smile and snuggle under my covers. He throws a hand over my head and rubs my stomach. "I can't picture you pregnant." He randomly blares semiquietly. My eyes travel to him, shocked. "What?"
I stutter for words as my tongue starts to swell up. "Who said I'm getting pregnant?"
He shrugs with a cheeky smile while his cheeks seer red from embaressment or excitement or whatever.
"Oh and who's getting me pregnant?" He cockily pops his imaginary collar and smiles, licking his lips. "Absolutely not."
He bursts into laughter, shaking my room with his echos. "Why not?"
I shrug and pull the covers over my shoulders. "You're crazy, Cameron."
"Am I?" He asks, like I'm supposed to deny it or I'm lying or whatever.
I laugh and nod my head. "Yes! Yes you are!" He laughs for a while. It's like heaven listening to his laugh. Like angels singing or something. But not opera singing .. like soft singing. A soft hum that can rock a baby to sleep. The way his Adam's apple jiggles, the way his eyes light up. How, when he's on the verge of tears of joy, his pupils glisten and give off a certain type of radiance.
His laughter dies down. Now he just stares at me. His face settled, hands soft as they caress my hair gently. I wonder if anyone's looked at my mom like this. If she's felt the way I'm feeling right now, or if she just settled for Garrett after Collin's dad died. I wonder if Garrett loved my mom the way Cameron loves me. If he looked at her like this once, way before I was born. Then out of the darkness, I was created. A white flower, dipped in red blood. Tainted. Cursed with stubbornness and inability to do other things or compete with other people. I grew, like a butterfly. I was once in a caccoon, but then came Cameron. The boy who forcefully, ripped it open and made me prematurely come out of my shell. Forced me to stop hiding in the dark and explore the world. To see things differently, instead of as black and white.
But at the same time, he turned everything that didn't matter into grey...
