After we pack all of his things, we load the boxes in his van.
"Where's your new place?" I ask him as he shoves a box on top of another one with a grunt.
"It's closer to my grandma's nursing home. And my job." He bites down on his lip for a second, thinking. "I guess it's near your school."
I arch my eyebrows and look at him, puzzled. Why would he get a place near my school? Maybe I'm just being too cautious, but that's a little weird.
"You need anything else?" I ask, pulling out my car keys.
He slams the trunk and looks at me. It's like he's looking at me but he's not actually seeing me. "What's he like?" He finally asks after moments of silence.
"Excuse me?"
"You're boyfriend." He restates. "What's he like?"
The thought of Cameron makes me smile, but that vanquishes when I realize who brought him up. I shrug, and keep to the point. "Loving, nice, funny, you know..."
He looks at me, waiting for more answers, but I don't go on. I can't go on. He smirks before puling his car keys out. "That's all?" He takes baby steps towards his front door, making my throat swell up.
"There's other things." My eyes flicker as I begin to feel small in the palms of his hand. I could go on, but then his eyes will only belittle me in his vision. He nods and gets into his car.
As soon as he drives off, I exhale, breathing out every breath I held in. That's not fair. Who is he to make me feel small. He can't make me feel bad for being in love.
When I get home, I'm glad to find Collin gone. I pull out my phone and call Cameron. He answers on the fourth ring sounding tired.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"Yeah, I was sleeping. What's up?"
"Oh, never mind then, go back to sleep."
"Leighton." He states simply and grumpily.
"I just wanted to see if you wanted to come over." I mumble into the phone. He sighs for a moment, still tired. "I'm home by myself..."
"I'll be there."
