I walk into my third block class and look around. I see Annabelle in the back writing something on her journal. I walk up to her and sit the seat beside her. She looks up at me, first with a smile, but that's quickly replaced with a worried expression. "Hey, are you okay?"

"Yeah, fine."

"Are you sure? I'm sorry about what happened at lunch...Cameron..." she stutters, "he was calling for you. He wanted to apologize. But he said he couldn't find you." She waits for my reaction, but I don't think I can find a face for that. If he just yelled at me, why the hell would he want to come look for me? And further more, apologize?

I plaster a fake laugh/scuff, still confused and pretend like I got a text. I pull my phone out and begin to text my friend, Gale, back in Indiana.

~Text Convo~

Me: This school is strange

Gale: I bet it is. I miss you:(

Me: Awe haa is Gale lonely

Gale: I'm serious, Leighton, I can't believe you really moved. And to California?

Gale and I had a ... thing. We were so complicated. He liked me, I didn't like him. He didn't like me, I liked him. We kissed, back in the 7th grade, when he was in 9th, at this birthday party for his sister. (She still doesn't know, which makes me feel a bit guilty because we're friends) Then again, when I was in 9th grade and he was in 11th. We were at this senior's party and Gale took me home because I was waaay too drunk for his liking. I ended up kissing -well, making out- with him when he dropped me off (I know, completely my part here), and he didn't mind, besides the fact that I reeked of alcohol. He stopped and said "I'm not going to take advantage of you when you're drunk" and I just left. His words sort of sobered me up, a bit, making me think about what I just did. Gale's attractive, don't get me wrong. He has luscious brown hair at the roots, that blondes up when you get to the tips. His eyes are a gorgeous bluish-green, that always change colors between that and grayish-green. His body is probably...really amazing. He plays basketball a lot, but he was on the swim team at school. His biceps are huge, and he has the best abs a little ninth grader has seen. Any girl could get him, really. I just never got why he wanted to date me all the time. A few girls back home hated me for that, which is typical because...why would a junior want to date an ugly freshman. Maybe he was on drugs? Because if so, that must've been the greatest crack in the world. He was there for me when my dad did something idiotic or fathomlessly stupid. And I was there for him when he asked me to be. He hates me for moving, but I didn't really have a choice. We had this big fight before I left, and he ended up coming all the way to the airport to tell me he's sorry ... by smashing his lips on mine in front of my mother and brother.

*Flashback*

Tears threatened to leave my eyes as I looked up at the "boarding to California" sign. These should be tears of joy, going to one of the best states in the country and all, but they're not.

"Leighton!" I hear my name. At first, I think I'm going crazy, because my brother is right next to me, and my mom doesn't have that deep of a voice, but when they shout my name again, I recognize who's calling me. I turn around and see Gale running towards me in his baggy khaki pants, red vans, and black Adidas shirt. I take a step back, wondering why he's here, before walking halfway to meet him so he doesn't look like an idiot, running in the airport. To be honest, I don't think he cares all that much.

To be honest, again, I'm not too thrilled to see him after we just had a huge argument. "What are you doing here, Gale?" I inquire, lowering my voice due to embarrassment.

"I'm sorry, Leighton, I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I yelled at you, and I'm sorry for being an ass, I just can't imagine you not with me. And not in this shitty town." He stutters, lips quivering and greenish eyes shining due to tears forming.
