Jealous

"Biana noooo-"

"Biana YESS!" The brunette elf half-dragged the blonde towards the door. Sophie fought desperately, trying to get out of her friend's grip. Biana persisted, trying to somehow throw her out the door, but she'd underestimated the fact that Sophie was now "working out." The idea itself had made her giggle, but Sophie had proved her wrong.

She disentangled herself and crossed her arms, leaning against the exit. "No. Biana I've already told you I don't want to."

Biana rolled her eyes. "But you have to," she smirked. "You have to look good for Fitz and Keeeeefe." Her tone was the same as always, light and teasing, but Sophie noticed a sort of restrained emotion lying underneath.

She just couldn't put her finger on it.

Sophie reached out and grabbed Biana's wrists, feeling herself turn profusely red. "W-wait. There's a reason why I don't wanna go. But first, are you feeling alright?"

Biana flashed another smile, this time so strained it looked almost painful. "Well duh. Of course I am," in a tone that would probably deceive nobody.

The blonde shook her head. "You aren't. Come on, lets go into the kitchen to get some mallowmelt; maybe that'll get you talking."

But when she tried getting Biana to leave, she wouldn't follow. "Ugh, c'mon Bi you can tell me what's wrong," Sophie tried again, dragging out the last word. Biana stared at the floor silently for a few moments, then burst into tears without warning. Alarmed, Sophie looked around the vast room for a place to sit. She wrapped arm around her still sobbing friend and led her to a giant sofa.

Everything in this house seemed twice the size it should be.

She let Biana sit down first, then dropped down next to her. The sobs had quieted into sniffles. Wow, she looked amazing even when she was sad. No, what was she thinking? She needed to focus on one thing at a time. "Sooo, wanna tell me what's wrong now?" Sophie prompted gently.

Despite herself, Biana gave a half smile. "You sound like my mom. But sure. I help my friends with all their romance issues, but does anyone really care what I'm going through?"

Before Sophie could object, she went on, "I mean, I know they do, but it's pretty damn hard when you're jealous of one of your best friends and your brother because you know they'll always be better than you and still have to put on a pretty face and deal with it."

Sophie knitted her brows. Still confused, but she had caught onto something. "You're jealous of me? And Fitz?  But why?"

Biana let out a dry laugh. "I'm not jealous of you. I'm jealous of Keefe."

"Huh?"

The brunette glared at her through streaming red eyes. "How blind can you get?! I'm jealous of Keefe and Fitz because you like one of them! And that's never going to be me!" She took another breath and went on. "I'm jealous of them because I like you Sophie."

It took Sophie a few moments to comprehend this information. She realized what was going on. It finally made sense. Why Biana had been so distant lately, why she sounded so strained when helping her prepare for a hangout with the boys.

Biana liked her. Not anyone else.

And Sophie felt the exact same way. But Biana didn't know that yet.

Biana looked at her for just another moment, then stood up. "I-I'm sorry. I messed things up. Nevermind. You can ask Linh to help you with shopping, I'm just gonna go-"

"Wait. Stop. You've got it all wrong. You've always been my best friend, but recently, I've been noticing something different. Whenever I make you smile, I light up too. I get nervous when you get too close, and I turn red if you lean over to brush off some makeup or button the back of my dress. I feel a knot in my stomach when you hang out with other people you're close to, and, I guess it doesn't hurt that you're the most beautiful person I know. Remember I said I have a reason I don't want to go dress shopping? Well this is it. I wanted to tell you instead how much I care about you. But not just as a friend."

Before she could chicken out, Sophie blurted out the rest super fast, "IreallyreallylikeyouandsinceyoujustsaidyoudotooIthoughtIshouldjusttellyou."

A few more seconds passed with just blankly staring at each other. Sophie wished the earth would open up and swallow her then and there. She saw Biana's face turn crimson and felt hers doing the same. Then Biana grabbed her hands and pulled her up.

"Um, is it okay if I.. if I..." Biana whispered. For once Sophie's obliviousness did not prevail and she nodded slightly.

Their lips met before she could even think, and it was amazing. Biana's arms wrapped around her waist and Sophie put one of her arms around Biana's neck and the other hand in her hair.

As they stood there, locked in what wouldn't break apart anytime soon, Sophie's mind wandered to what they were originally going to do. Dress shopping and hanging out  with the boys? It didn't sound nearly as exciting as what could happen next.

And to think she had gotten the courage simply because Biana was jealous.
