Goals (the oneshot!)

Linh doodled on the margins of her notebook. She was tired of the boring lecture. Sometimes she wished she could go back to Exillium, but she knew she was better off hers. Before she knew it, Linh had sketched out a drop of water, a heart sign, and used an orange crayon to create a firey effect. She instantly flushed and furiously erased it, ripping the paper in the process.

All eyes turned to her.

Linh pretended to fall over on her chair so nobody would notice the ripped paper. Everyone started to snicker. Above them all, Linh caught an especially pretty laugh, belonging to none other than Marella Redek. It hurt just a little to hear her laugh join the others.

Lady Whatever- Linh could never remember her name- crossed her arms. "You seem to be drawing attention to yourself today, Miss Song. Why don't you teach the class today instead?"

Linh felt heat rise to her cheeks. "I'm sorry. I promise I won't-"

"No, I insist. Come up and join me here."

Was there a time she'd felt more embarrassed? Linh couldn't think when she had. In a flash, she was up at the front of the class with nothing to say. She caught some of the students giving her mocking looks, others hopeful. Marella most of all seemed fixated on whatever she had to say. And know what? She thought she knew what the topic would be.

"Okay, so I was thinking maybe everyone should write down their goals, for the Foxfire year. Try to complete them by the time you move on to the next Level. At the end of the year, check off everything you did. Is that okay, Lady....?"

She was frowning, unhappy with Linh's finding a way to not embarrass herself. But some of the students were nodding enthusiastically.

Lady Whatever briskly nodded finally. "Do it then. Get out your paper and a quill."

Linh trudged back to her seat, thinking her cheeks were actually on fire. She would splash water on herself if she weren't in a classroom.

She pulled out her own paper and quoll and set to work.

Goals:

- Get a Murcat and name her Princess Purryfins
- Get Tammy to eat a cupcake with pink frosting
- Go shopping at Atlantis with Biana
- Master your hydrokenisis by the end of this year
- Tell Tammy to ask Biana out

As soon as she finished writing it, Linh crumpled it up and stuffed it somewhere in her cape.

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Marella hunched over her own paper, writing furiously.

Lady Whatever clapped her hands. "Class Dismissed. Miss Song, stay back and collect the lists. You will give them to each student separately after you finish the rest of your classes."

As Linh looked up in dismay, Marella raised her hand.

"Yes?"

"Um, maybe I can do it instead?" She looked all flushed and embarrassed. What was it that she'd written on her paper she didn't want Linh to know?

"I appreciate the offer, but no."

As Marella trudged out morosely behind the rest of the crowd, Linh set to work. Some of the things she saw almost made her snort out loud. Lady Whatever had temporarily left, so Linh took the chance to pull out a vial of water.

She'd finally gotten to Marella. Her list consisted of mostly pyrokinetic goals, how she wished she could understand her mom better, which Linh thought was really sweet, and something about Alicorn Poop and Keefe.

But the final line on the list made Linh choke on her water and almost spit it out.
