Biana's eyes slowly fluttered open. She glanced around. The room was quiet, and she was lying on a bed which was almost softer than the one she had at home. In front of it on the floor were remnants of popcorn and there was a rolled up projector board.
Instantly she remembered. Last night- no, not last night. It was still dark, and as her eyes came into focus, she noticed a sleeping bag next to the bed on the ground. They'd watched a movie. That Dizznee kid had said it was a comedy. They'd tricked her! It wasn't just that she hated horror movies, it was that they brought memories back.
Memories of Clio.
Biana blinked hard a few times. This was why she didn't trust people, but her brother, being a simp, and Keefe, wanting to flirt with random girls, insisted she go.
At least the worst hadn't happened.
But how was she up here?
Unless...
Had she passed out?
Biana decided she hated this Sophie Foster girl. For one, she had stolen Keefe from her. And for another, she'd embarrassed Biana in front of her friends. They hadn't known. Nobody except Keefe and her brother.
There was a light snort, making Biana jump. Cautiously, she rose from the bed and leaned down to the side.
"Who's that?" she whispered.
The figure in the sleeping bad started and shot up. "Wha-whe- oh. Hey Biana," he said awkwardly.
Biana wanted to scowl, but she couldn't. She was completely horrible to Sophie, Jensi, Dex, and Linh in fear of them becoming like Clio (well, sometimes Linh scared her). But when it came to Linh's twin, things got a bit harder.
It was easy to just ignore him or cut him off, because if he talked long enough Biana started feeling awkward. But being openly rude? No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't. A few hours ago she'd started to frown at him, but her face seemed to reset itself into a smile. Weird.
"Hey Tam. How'd I get here?" she asked him, sitting up completely to get a better view.
The metallic silver of his bangs glinted in the dark. She'd always thought they were kind of coo- no.
Tam tugged at his bangs. "Uh, well, while we were watching the movie you sort of hid yourself behind me and I thought you were just scared and stuff. But then I felt you go limp, so I asked Sophie if I could put you in her bed. She said it was okay, so I did, and now we're all sleeping downstairs. I volunteered to stay here in case you woke up."
The brunette breathed a sigh of relief. That didn't sound that bad. Then, more horrible thoughts sprung into her head. Had she talked in her sleep? Said something about Clio? Had Sophie stopped the movie for her? That was even worse! What did everyone think of her now?
Tam was watching, and scrutinized the look on her face. He seemed to interpret correctly and shook his head. "Don't worry, Biana. You didn't do anything weird... or say anything weird. We just assumed you were asleep. But is there anything you want to talk about? You can tell me, you know. I'd never tell anyone."
She'd only talked to him for a few minutes, yet she felt an inexplicable trust. "Okay," she said. "I used to have a best friend. A different one."
Tam nodded.
"Her name was Clio, and we did everything together. As we grew, she got new friends. That was okay with me, and I got to know them too. But I always felt like there was something wrong. You know, when you feel like someone's messed up?" she asked.
