The Perfect Moment

This is set in an AU.

Sophie Foster dragged her heels forward on the stage, turning back, forcing a smile, and flipping her silky blond hair. This was a daily scenario, so she was used to it. Not that it made her any less clumsy.

Her secretary Linh Song bounced on her toes. "EEEEK! Sophie you're getting so much better-"

As she finished these words, Sophie twisted on her foot and fell face first off the stage. The other model behind her, Biana Vacker, was much more graceful and caught the back of her dress, propping her back up.

Biana sighed. "Sophie, we've been over this a million times. Don't drag your heels. It catches in the edge of the stage. And I won't always be there to catch you."

Sophie groaned. She hated this. She was only doing it to raise money for her parents' animal sanctuary. Biana, on the other hand, did it simply for the fun of it. Sophie couldn't imagine how. All the sparkles and ruffles and- gross. The dress she had on right now was lavender, poofy, and had way too many folds which she could barely see.

Linh wasn't so irritated. She resumed bouncing and said excitedly, "But girls, the boys are coming in a few hours to help you with the partner thing! I know you're excited to see my brother, Bi!"

Biana blushed a dark red. "I am," she admitted.

The black-haired girl brushed her bangs off her forehead. "And Sophie is dying to see Keefe, I bet," she added slyly.

Sophie's heart started going about five times faster and her voice was an octave higher when she replied, "Um, of course I am, he's my friend!"

Her companions both facepalmed. "Uh huh, sure."

A half-hour later, the three were seated in a dressing room where Linh worked excitedly on their dresses.

Biana's was long, teal, and had a neckline her brother would NOT approve of. At least it was for a good cause? Biana kept instructing Linh to add a sparkle here, or a ruffle down there.

For Sophie's dress, Linh- sweet, understanding Linh- had gone for something simpler. It went down to her ankles and was a dark red, embroidered with rhinestones at the waist. Still a little too wavy and fancy for Sophie, but it would do.

"This is why I prefer Linh to Biana when it comes to dresses," Sophie muttered. Biana caught the words and glared mutinously.

"Excuse me? I'll have you know-"

"Whoa, what's going on here?" Tam Song entered the room.

"TAMMY!" Linh shrieked, catching him in a tackle hug. They crashed to the floor.

"No touchie," huffed Tam, but Sophie noticed the corners of his mouth turning up in a smile. Tam straightened up, turning to Biana. "You done yet? I think Della wants to do your hair specially."

Biana nodded, turning crimson again. She grabbed her dress, thanked Linh, and dragged Tam out of the room.

Despite being amused and on ship-mode, Sophie couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy and disappointment. "Where's Keefe?" she asked Linh.

Linh seemed to know what was on her mind, and she smiled. "Don't worry Sophie, I'm sure he'll turn up soon. Now let's do your hair."

Before Sophie knew it, it was time. Keefe still hadn't turned up. She waited backstage with Linh, watching Biana and Tam's entrance. They both looked amazing. Sophie cheered, but inside, she felt like falling apart. What if he didn't turn up at all? She remembered Biana's words.

And I won't always be there to catch you.

What if she did actually fall? Biana couldn't catch her then! Neither could Linh, or Tam, or-

"Now, SOPHIE FOSTER and KEEFE SENCEN!"

"Break a leg!" Linh whispered as Sophie entered the stage. That made her feel even worse. What if she did break her leg?

There was no time to think about it now. Sophie continued her catwalk, spinning and posing as she had practiced over a million times. There were now hushed murmurs amongst the girls in the crowd. Where's Keefe Sencen?

Now Sophie approached the dreaded edge of the stage. She turned back, for her final move, flipped her hair, and proceeded to leave, but her heel caught.

She was falling.

She was falling.

Her chance of donation was ruined.

Edaline and Grady would probably have to shut their sanctuary down.

She wasn't falling? Sophie was dipped down in the classic dance position.

A familiar pair of ice-blue eyes stared back at her. Keefe smirked. "You think I would abandon my favorite, worrying Foster for something as important as this? I know what that sanctuary means to you. For a matter of fact, Tammy boy was helping me," his smile faded for a moment. "We were planning on how I should ask you out after the show, but we got a bit too carried away."

Sophie was sure her skin tone and her dress matched up perfectly.

He smirked again. "But now I see the perfect opportunity. So, Sophie Elizabeth Foster, would you do me the pleasure of being my girlfriend?"

Somehow finding the ability to speak again, she whispered, "Of course."

Their lips met.

And the crowd went wild.
