Y/N POV
The whole team, minus Thor who had still not returned from wherever he's disappeared to, are sat gathered around the table in Clint's dimly lit kitchen, the sky outside a deep shade of blue as the night settles.
Director Fury had turned up to discuss Ultron's intentions and possible next move, but they had all been going back and forth and round in circles for the last hour.
I had stopped paying attention in the first twenty minutes, instead putting my headphones in and wracking my brain for any meaning of what I had seen in my vision back in Africa.
Nat had shared briefly she relived some of her memories from the Red Room, Steve was at a dance with Peggy, which never happened, and Tony saw the team lying dead with a portal above and the aliens from New York, which is half real, half false. And Thor's vision caused him to disappear immediately.
So what on earth could mine have meant?
A nudge in my side from Nat draws my attention back to the group, pulling an earphone out of one of my ears I turn to face Fury.
"Ultron says the Avengers are the only thing between him and his mission.
And whether or not he admits it, his mission is global destruction. All this, laid in a grave. So stand. Outwit the platinum bastard."
"Steve doesn't like that kind of talk." I smirk at Rogers standing against the doorframe.
"You know what, y/l/n" He grumbles, throwing me a playful scowl.
Bringing the conversation back to Ultron, Fury continues.
"So what does he want?"
"To become better." Steve proposes. "Better than us. He keeps building bodies."
"Person bodies. The human form is inefficient. Biologically speaking, we're outmoded. But he keeps coming back to it." Tony interjects.
"When you two programmed him to protect the human race, you amazingly failed." I put forth, looking between the billionaire and the doctor. Bruce was staring at some papers on the desk, his brow furrowed.
"They don't need to be protected. They need to evolve. Ultron's going to evolve." He utters in a low voice as he comes to his realisation.
"How?" Fury inquires, and I'm glad he did because I don't have a clue what Banner means.
"Has anyone been in contact with Helen Cho?"
-
In less than an hour, we had all our things gathered from Barton's farm and had piled back onto the quinjet. Clint, Nat, Steve and I will go to Helen Cho's lab, whilst Tony, Bruce and Bucky go back to the compound.
We reach the lab as morning dawns. Steve and I go in whilst Nat and Clint stay in the jet ready for extraction.
Racing down the halls of the facility, I reach the main room before Steve, freezing as I see we were too late. Cho lay crumpled on the floor, an aggressive burn wound spread across her shoulder. Steve rushes over to her, immediately applying pressure and trying to bandage her injury.
"He's uploading himself in the body." She hisses at him, her voice thick with the pain she's in.
"Where?"
"The real power is inside the Cradle. The gem, its power is uncontainable. You can't just blow it up. You have to get the cradle to Stark."
"First I have to find it."
