Y/N POV

*
Gunfire echoed through the air as I dash down the broken cobblestones of Sokovia.

A blue stream of light whizzes past and Pietro comes to a halt just ahead, grabbing onto a robot about to fire a blue beam straight at him. Racing over to help, more androids start flooding towards us and we jump into action, taking them all down in minutes.

The grumbling sound of a jet engine heading towards us jerks our attention to the sky and we spot Ultron begin a relentless attack of bullets from a quinjet above.

A feeling of deja vu waves over me like a punch to the gut.

This has happened before.

I'm dreaming.

The Sokovian had already taken off towards the archer stood oblivious by the side of the street and my leg's spring into action as I chase after him.

Hairs prickle on the back of my neck as I sense the stream of bullets edging closer and I reach my arms out to shove Pietro out the way.

Agony spreads through my entire body, the metal ripping through me once again, but my focus is entirely on the boy in front of me.

Time seems to slow as I watch the ammo enter his back and crimson spreads across his torso.

"You didn't see that coming?"

But I did. I did see it coming and I failed a second time.

"NO!"

A piercing shriek cracks through the air as Pietro and I collapse to the floor.

That didn't happen last time.

Craning my neck around, my vision is hazy as I make out Wanda tearing down the square from the church, collapsing to her knees between Pietro and me.

"No, no, no." She whispers as she desperately presses a hand to each of our chests trying to apply pressure to the wounds.

"Wanda, this isn't real." I manage to choke out, placing my hands on hers.

She stares at me in shock.

"W-what? You've never said that before."

"We're dreaming, our dreams must've linked together because of our telepathy."

I feel a bubble form in my throat and try to cough it out but blood spatters up and dribbles down my chin. Wanda's eyes widen with horror and her chest begins to heave as she glances between her brother and me bleeding out beneath her.

"Wanda, you need to wake up!"

The auburn-haired girl is now fully hyperventilating, not hearing a word I'm saying.

I've got to wake up so I can get her out of this dream.

Holding my breath, I scrunch my eyes shut as I try to fight the burning ache spreading in my chest. Her screams are muffled by the sound of my heartbeat roaring in my ears, getting slower and slower until all thoughts slip away.

*

I could still hear the thumping beat as my eyes fly open, but I soon realise it's Wanda's heartbeat I can hear, not my own.

The Sokovian was still fast asleep on my chest where she had drifted off the night before, her thundering heart the only indication she was stuck in her nightmare.
