Y/N POV

"Y/l/n! Where did you go?" Bruce thunders through comms as I begin darting through the corridors, reaching my energy out to try and pick up Nat's thoughts to lead me to her.

"Hydra base. Thought it would make sense to check here first."

"And how am I supposed to get up there?"

"You're the one who insisted on coming. Hitch a ride with Stark or something."

There didn't seem to be a single person in the building, every corner I rounded was bare, every room I peered in empty.

I come across a set of stairs tucked behind a wall towards the very back of the compound leading down to a lower level I didn't notice the first time I was here. Cautiously tiptoeing down, my heart begins to race and I quicken my pace as a familiar voice pops into my head.

*Is everyone on that team completely useless? What am I still doing in this cell?*

"Not having fun Romanoff?" I reach the bottom of the stairs, coming to a room lined with cells, finding the assassin locked in the furthest one, similar to where I had been kept in when Nat rescued me.

"Look who needs rescuing from a cell now. How the tables turn." I smirk, hands on my hips as I taunt her from my side of the bars.

"Whatever, just get me out."

Drawing a humming ball of energy from my fingers, I fling it at the lock and the door flies off the hinges into the cell wall. Nat steps over the fallen bars and grabs me into a hug which I forcefully return, relieved that she was alive and not beaten to a pulp. Letting each other go, I reach into the bag slung over my shoulder and hand her her weapons.

"You fit for combat?" Looking her up and down she doesn't seem to have any obvious injuries.

"Let's finish the job." She grins, flipping her batons around her fingers and jogging over to the steps, colliding heads with a flustered, out of breath Bruce.

"I- I'm here." He gasps, clutching his chest like he's just finished a 10-mile marathon.

"About time." I push past him up the stairs, Nat following close behind and Banner groans at his lack of recovery time, staggering back up with us.

Making our way back out of the facility, we squint into the afternoon light, the sun blinding compared to the sullen interior we had just retreated from. Glancing down at the city below, I can spot a trail of crimson magic floating through the city as Wanda manipulates the citizens to leave their homes whilst Steve and Bucky try to direct traffic along the bridge out of the city.

"Got Romanoff, coming back down now." I update the rest of the team on comms. Just as I go to teleport to the city, an explosion is heard from the church.

"What was that?" Nat breathes.

"You're asking me like I know more than you do. I saw the same thing you did."

"Look." Bruce points at the city with a look of horror spreading on his face. Robots with glowing blue eyes can be seen climbing up from cracks in the road, taking flight and attacking the retreating citizens.

I spot a young girl standing alone in the middle of the street with 3 androids approaching her. With a sharp breath, I teleport in front of her, throwing an indigo energy shield from my fingers to block the blasts shot from the robots flying overhead.

A flash of red in my peripheral vision catches my attention and I lock eyes with Wanda, who had her own energy shield spreading before her to protect a crowd of people behind her. Picking the girl up and placing her on my hip, I brace the back of her head and sprint to the edge of the city.
