Will's brows furrowed in confusion. The boy lay awake in bed, unable to fall asleep when his ears caught the sound of a tapping on his window. It was probably just the wind, he thought. It did tend to get quite windy at night that time of year. But as the boy shifted into a more comfortable position, the sound returned.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
The boy's heartrate quickened as the realisation that the sound was far too distinct to have been the wind dawned upon him. Swallowing the fear in his throat, Will sat up and slowly turned his gaze towards the window, only to let out a sigh of relief; for standing outside the window, with her arms wrapped around herself to shield her body from the cold and her hair billowing in the wind, was Ally Harrington.
The girl smiled bashfully and gave him a sheepish salute in greeting from outside. Wasting no more time, will threw the covers off of himself and rushed to let her in.
"Ally? What are you doing here?" Will asked as he pushed open the window .
"Sorry for waking you but... Can I stay here tonight?" She asked, getting straight to the point.
Naturally, Will was confused and wanted to know why but seeing the darkness ringing her desperate blue eyes, the boy thought it best not to ask just yet. So, instead, he simply nodded and moved aside so that Ally could climb in.
"Thanks," she breathed gratefully as she gracefully snuck into Will's room.
As Ally pulled a sleeping bag out of her backpack, Will fetched Ally a spare pillow and helped her spread her sleeping bag out onto the floor beside his bed, being careful not to make any noise. Silently, Will climbed back into bed and Ally into her sleeping bag. The pair laid there in silence, both wide awake.
"Will?" Ally whispered, breaking the comfortable silence.
"Yeah, Ally?" He whispered back, eyes glued to the ceiling.
"Do you think I'm strange?" She asked out of the blue.
"Of course not," he replied instantly, "Why would you be strange?"
Ally swallowed the lump in her throat and forced her voice not to break as she replied.
"No reason. Just... something I overheard- i-it's nothing," she tried to casually brush off.
"Well... I think you're the coolest person I know," Will whispered as his eyes began to droop shut.
"You do?" She questioned, disbelieving.
"Mmhmm," Will hummed in confirmation.
Ally's heart fluttered as a heat crawled up onto her cheeks and she bit her lip to try hide the growing smile on her face.
