By the time Ally reached the field, the others were already there, including - somehow - Will's mother. But Ally paid them no mind and, truth be told, they were far too preoccupied to notice her small figure on the other side of the field as it sprinted towards them; for their attention was wholly captured by the boy at the centre of all the commotion.

"Will!" She screamed out to him as her wide, worried eyes met the sight.

Will stood in the middle of the field, still as a statue, arms glued to his sides like a rigid soldier, waiting at attention and eyes shut tight yet rapidly moving beneath their lids as though the boy was dreaming standing up.

But what was happening to Will was no dream. It was a nightmare— in every sense of the word.

"Ally!" Lucas gasped, relieved to see the girl, "We don't know what happened. We just found him like this and he won't wake up," Lucas informed, confusion and alarm creasing his brow as he panted much like Ally.

"Can you wake him?" Joyce asked as soon as she saw Ally, a spark of hope being restored in her wide terrified eyes that wrinkled with worry.

Ally nodded instantly, not even second-guessing her decision or thinking about the fact that Max - an outsider - was standing right there, ready to bear witness to a secret that Ally had spent years of her life trying to keep.

Once her breathing calmed, Ally stepped forward, focusing her attention solely onto Will. The girl gulped and tentatively placed a hand over his. His soft porcelain skin was cold to the touch— the contrast of it with the rough warmth of Ally's flesh, so startlingly different that the boy could feel the jolt of his heart within him. The heat of her touch coupled with the soft inviting whisper in his ear - his name tenderly rolling off Ally's tongue and swirling around in his head until the monster couldn't take it anymore - was clearly proven to be enough to wake him as Will's eyes finally snapped open.

As soon as Will and his mom left, Ally didn't have the luxury of sticking around to come up with a decent enough lie to feed to Max. Steve - probably after receiving a call from Joyce about the non-AV-club-meeting - pulled into the parking lot just as Ally caught sight of her sister's head of curly brown hair, emerging from the side of the school.

"I gotta go," Ally excused herself distractedly, "I'll see you guys tomorrow,"

Without looking back at their expressions of incredulity, Ally took off, leaving her friends in the dust. She rounded the corner of the school, gesturing for Steve to circle around and pick her up behind the school.
