𝙾𝙽𝙻𝚈 𝙿𝙰𝚁𝚃As night fell, so did their hopes of finding El. Deciding it best to go home and hope that El would return to Mike's basement on her own, the trio parted ways. After making sure that Mike got home safe, Ally and Dustin biked towards their homes in silence until Ally finally spoke up with a request.
"Hey, Dustin?" She called, catching the boy's attention.
"Yeah?"
"Weird question, I know; but would it be okay if I stayed at your place tonight?" Ally asked kinda sheepishly.
Dustin's brows shot up as he looked to her in surprise. However, Ally kept her eyes trained on the road ahead, not wanting to meet his questioning gaze. Thankfully, Dustin could take a hint and chose not to question the out-of-the-blue request.
"Uh, y-yeah. Sure. It can be like a sleepover," He said, trying to lighten up her undoubtedly dampened mood.
Ally smiled appreciatively. He truly was one of the greatest friends she could ever have asked for and Ally honestly wasn't sure what she'd do without him.
"Yeah, like a sleepover,"
The rest of the ride to Dustin's house was filled by Dustin chattering on about all the fun stuff they could during their sleepover, with Ally occasionally throwing in a suggestion or two.
As soon as they arrived at the Henderson household, Ally got the opportunity to meet Mrs Henderson; and, as it would turn out, Ally adored both the woman and her cat. Mrs Henderson reminded Ally a lot of what her and Steve's mom used to be like when she'd first been adopted. Kind and loving. Fortunately for Ally, Mrs Henderson quickly took a liking to the young girl and welcomed her into her home with open arms.
The pair spent their time playing board games, having popcorn fights and just enjoying their time together, being kids. After many an in-depth conversation/debate about topics ranging from science to Star Wars, Ally and Dustin sat crisscross on his bedroom floor with their backs to his bed, their noses buried in various comic books and the discarded wrappers of various candy bars haphazardly scattered around them.
"Hey, Al," Dustin spoke, dragging the girl's attention from the Wonder Woman comic in her hand.
"Yeah?" Ally replied putting her book down.
"What happened back there? At the junkyard?" Dustin asked with genuine concern coating his voice.
Ally froze, her throat suddenly becoming very dry. Her friends may finally know of her true origins but the horrors of her time in that horrible place, horrors that forever plagued her, were not something that she ever wished to burden them with.
"W-what are you talking about?" Ally stuttered, desperately hoping that he'd just drop the subject.
But when did she ever really get what she wanted?
