Chapter 4:

You and Ghoulia slipped back in the school through the gym doors, ignoring the questioning looks you received. Together, you made your way to the cafeteria. The group sat at their normal table, but Cleo and Deuce were nowhere to be found. You gave a look to Ghoulia, who responded by shrugging her shoulders lazily.

She led you to a small table in the back. Almost no one was around it, except maybe Jackson.

"Hey!" He called.

You smiled at him and sat across from him. Ghoulia sat beside you.

"Hey!"

"I didn't see you in class." He mumbled, and he bit into his school sandwich. You grimaced as you watched the slop fall out of the bread.

"Yeah, I was...um..." You scraped every inch of your mind for an excuse.

"Skipping?" Jackson asked.

You sighed and laughed quietly.

"Yeah, I was skipping."

He nodded and took another bite before sliding his tray to you.

"Here, eat!"

You shook your head and slid the tray back.

"Thanks, but I'm already full."

You lied. Just looking at the food made your stomach turn. He nodded and sat the food down.

"Did I miss anything?" You asked.

"Unless you count the endless ranting and arguments, no." He chuckled.

You smiled and ran a hand through your hair. Jackson grinned up at you.

"So-"

"Ughh!!" Ghoulia tapped your leg quickly. Her panicked tapping caught your attention, and you looked to where she was pointing.

Manny seethed with anger, his eyes cutting around the room and his chest heaving with aggression. It was nightmare fueling for you, and Jackson gulped anxiously.

"We-We should go!" He whispered.

Ghoulia scooped up her books and Jackson threw the tray away in a nearby trashcan. You jumped up and joined them.

The three of you rushed out of the cafeteria. A sudden yell echoed through the halls, only encouraging you to go faster.

Ghoulia rushed down the steps and into the catacombs, while you and Jackson rushed outside to the pool. A few students were outside, and you and Jackson scanned the area for a hiding place.

"(Y/N)!!!!!" Manny roared.

"Come on, come on!!" Jackson grabbed your hand and led you through the crowding students.

He rushed over to the bleachers and shoved you behind them. Then, he hid in the snack building used for home games.

You peeked through a hole in the bleachers. Manny was interrogating students, asking and even threatening some about where you went. You made a silent prayer and continued to hide.

His head suddenly snapped to your peeking hole, his eyes making contact with yours. You sent another silent prayer. He pushed the guy he was talking to out of the way by his head. Then, he stomped to you.

You shot up and ran to the other side before hiding behind a concrete wall. The sound of Manny's body flopping on the ground only caused your heart to pound faster.

Puke made its way to your throat, and you swallowed the horrible feeling down. It rose again, this time a heartbeat thumped your esophagus. You swallowed once more and ignored the ripping pain in your legs. A hand grabbed your shoulder.
