You cracked your eyes open to look around your room. No lights were on in the house, signaling that the power hadn't been paid and that it was night time. You looked over at your phone. It had been dead since earlier, leaving you to worry about how you were going to charge it.
You flipped the blankets off of you and stretched your legs. They cramped up from their uncomfortable position, but soon relaxed and went back to normal. You slid out of bed and put your hair up away from your face. It was pitch black in your room, and there weren't any other signs of life.
You shrugged the thoughts away and slid on a pair of jeans and a tank top. Then, you grabbed a jacket to throw over it. Your eyes landed on your bookbag, which had been filled with both yours and Cleo's homework. Luckily it was almost done.
Don't want her telling Manny on me.
You grabbed your phone and charger before your wallet. Then, you felt your way around the house until you could safely exit through your door.
The air hit you hard, like a thousand bricks toppling on top of one another. You pulled on your jacket and shut your door. You hesitated to pull out your keys. Locking it wouldn't do any good, anyway.
You heaved a sigh and stepped into the dark street before you slowly made your way down the road. Laughter filled your ears, and on your high alert you turned your head quickly to see who it was.
A group of werewolves laughed loudly as they smoked. They were obviously on something, and the moment one of them noticed your form, the others shut up to get a closer look.
They started whistling, causing you to quicken your steps.
"Ay!" They whooped. "Come 'ere!"
Another one whistled loudly. "Wassup, sugar?"
You broke out into a full on run, trying not to get caught by the howling men. They jumped up and ran at you full speed. You plowed past elderly people and street lights before eventually tumbling over a homeless man on the ground.
"Hmph!"
You slammed your feet into the ground as the man wrapped his arms around your form to protect your fall. You fell on top the person.
After a few minutes of silence, you pulled yourself away from the man. He had a strong build with short brown hair and stubble. A large scar ran from his wrist all the way to under his shirt.
"I-I'm so sorry!" You mumbled.
You picked up your fallen phone and charger before thanking the heavens that everything had stayed intact. Nothing broken, no extra money having to be spent.
"Why the hell were ya runnin'?!" He choked out. His voice was harsh and deep, sending fear to spread around your gut.
"I was being chased." You answered.
He stood up and brushed himself off. "Watch where ya runnin', then."
"Yessir!" You replied.
You jogged off from the road and went down an alley. The same one you had met Frankie on, to be exact. You didn't stop, though. You had bigger things to worry about.
Your feet finally stopped at an old, run down diner. It was obvious that it was going downhill, but they offered free charging spots, air conditioning, and you had 1 dollar on you. Just enough for a milkshake while you waited.
The doorbell chimed annoyingly, making you the odd one out. The only person in there was your favorite worker, an elderly woman with zero fucks to give. You liked to think that she was a werecat version of you from the future.
