NIKI POV:Our form teacher walks into the room holding papers.
"So. I bet you're wondering when your homecoming is. Well, apparently this year, your grade gets it's own one a week after everyone else's. According to the school, they want you to have extra time to find your soulmates,"
Of course. Everyone is so wrapped up in love this year. I'm happy for them, really, but it feels very over the top. I glance over at Puffy and Minx, and they laugh. My friends love homecoming, and the fact we don't have any other grades there this year? Must be heaven for them.
"So that means it's next week. Start preparing!" They say with a clap. We all start talking among ourselves, obviously about the dance.
"You reckon we can sneak in booze?" Minx grins.
"Yeah. We did last year," Puffy shrugs.
"Hey Minx! You planning on smuggling stuff?" Wilbur says, leaning over his desk.
"Of course!" She replies.
He nods and sits back down. Everyone is talking about Homecoming now, I realise. Can't wait for today to be over. A group of us are meeting up at Wil's house.
~~timeskip~~
"Dad! We may have brought too many people round," Wilbur calls out as we all pile in.
"Wha-" Phil says appearing in the hallway.
"Hello... all. It's fine, just try not to be too loud," He says, letting us past. The group all walk into the basement and spread out. Techno sits on his desk chair, Tommy, Tubbo and Ranboo sit on beanbags, Wilbur and Jack sit on the couch and Puffy, Minx and I sit on the floor inbetween them all."What are we doing for Homecoming?" Minx asks, leaning back into her bag.
"I think we should go as a group, unless any of us manage to get a date," Jack says. We all agree.
"Hey Tubbo?" I ask.
"Hey Niki!" He says.
"Did you find out about your soulmate?" I ask. He's had his platonic mark as long as I've known him.
"Um," He pushes his hoodie sleeve up and the grey mark on his forearm has gone shimmery. "You could call this progress? Except from the looks of the mark, I would need to have bumped into them, and I bump into a lot of people," He says.
"Ah," I nod.
"Well, from the angle of it, it would need to be a tall person," Ranboo offers.
"Ah yes. So useful, in a room full of 6 foot tall people," he says sarcastically.
We laugh.
"But seriously- I think Jack may have been onto something," Puffy says. "We can try and get like, matching outfits, and, as Jack says, none of us are gonna get dates, sorry, but it's true, we would look so cool,"
"Yeah!" Minx says enthusiastically. I nod too. Maybe it won't be too bad this year.
BAD POV:
"So, um, homecoming," I say as the 7 of us set off.
"Homecoming," Sapnap agrees.
"What do you reckon Becky's group are gonna do?" Dream chuckles.
"Oh, now we get our own one, she'll be even worse, her and her group going around like they own the place," Karl groans.
"Ooh, hey boys, looking good," Skeppy mocks.
"How much do you reckon they'll all arrive together and be like 'boys are for 13 year olds! Tonights for girlfriends!'
And then all leave making out with boys," George says dryly. We laugh. That group are one of the worst in our school, bleached blonde cheerleaders who are about fake positivity, then bully about half the school.Last year, they rigged prom king and queen so it was a quiet kid, then started being horrible, saying the school were pitying her, and so many other horrible things. They never got found out, till July, when one of them snitched on their Instagram.
Skeppy peels off outside his house and we wave to him.
"Sapnap, don't you live on the other road?" I ask.
"Yeah, but usually I walk up with Dream and George and walk down a bit," He shrugs.
I nod. "How's your mom been?"
"Oh, don't get me started. Keeps trying to get me with the next door neighbour's daughter, and I keep saying Alyssa's my friend, but Mom ignores it. Alyssa's fine with it though. Somehow she manages to keep avoiding my mom," He says.
"Ouch," Dream says. We stop, and Karl crosses the road. He walks into his house and yells a goodbye. The 5 of us continue walking.
"Oh, yeah, and she doesn't want me to go to Karl's house anymore. I told her to do one," He shrugs.
"Sapnap!" I say, shocked.
"What? She also probably won't want me to go to Homecoming with you guys. Did I tell you she's trying to get me a therapist for that too?" He adds.
"What? No, you didn't," Quackity says.
"Isn't that illegal?" George asks.
"I- don't know. I think it might be in places, but not here, I don't think," Sapnap says.
"Well, that's not at all worrying," Quackity says. We turn the corner. Sapnap shrugs.
"I'm not gonna go, if that's any consolation," He says. Quackity mutters something along the lines of 'I'll kill her when I get my hands on her' but ruder.
George and Dream both turn into George's drive. "See you tomorrow!" They say. I wave.
"Ok then Dream," Sapnap laughs.
"Shut up," Dream says, dragging out the 'up'.
We continue on, down to 3. When we reach the turning, Quackity and I cross the road, and wave goodbye to Sapnap, who is turning down to his house. Quackity walks into his house, and I say goodbye. As I head up to my house, I smile. Walking back with my friends is nice. I should do it more.
As I enter my house, my thoughts turn to Homecoming.I presume the others will go with their soulmates, so that leaves me and Skeppy. I still feel bad about how I reacted when he said something. I was just surprised. If it's meant to be...
As I sit down in front of my computer, I stare at my reflection in the screen. Should I ask him to the dance?
