NIKI POV:

I cough into my elbow, trying my best to focus on my work. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Puffy and Minx debating something.

"Niki, are you alright there?" Minx frowns as I cough again.

"Yeah, just got a sore throat," I lie. I'd be lucky if I had just a sore throat. I ache all over, haven't had enough sleep in days, can't stop coughing and have a throbbing headache.

"Maybe have some water?" Puffy says, looking over at me.

"Mm, I don't have any left," I mumble, trying to read what's on the board.

"Ask to refill it then," Minx says, as if it's obvious. I mean, it is, but I don't like walking around the school on my own especially during lessons.

"Yeah, maybe," I look back down at my work.

"God, is anyone else really hot?" I ask, fanning myself.

Puffy raises an eyebrow. "No, the AC is fully on,"

"Oh,"

I squint at my paper, and scribble down some notes.

My vision goes fuzzy, and I black out.

I blink, trying to focus my eyes.

"Wha- Where am I?" I ask, looking around.

"Nurse's office," Minx says, frowning.

"You passed out," Puffy adds.

"Ah," I say, sitting up.

"Oh, good, you're back with us," The nurse says, bustling in. "I've called your parents, they should be picking you up any time now. I hope your friends have filled you in,"

I nod.

"Thank you girls. You can go back to class now," She says, shooing them out.

"I don't need to go home, I'm fine," I insist.

"Really? Your friends say you were coughing non-stop, felt hot and had headaches,"

"Ok, sure, maybe, but I don't need to go home, I'm fine,"

"Niki. Your parents are on the way, get some rest," She says, frowning. I sigh. I guess a day can't hurt?

~~timeskip~~

I walk up to my room, dropping my bag on the floor. I flop down on my bed, hearing my mom downstairs.

"Gerald? I need to go back to work now, Niki is sick, the medicine is in the cupboard,"

"Sure,"

"Ok. And next time, I'm not leaving work. Seen as I'm the only one working in this household, next time you go,"

I sigh, trying to block out their argument. I've gotten used to it now.
