Chapter 21

•••Seanne's POV

A week before the exam, I was given the afternoon and evenings free. Mngr. Ysidro told me that I should focus on my studies. I wanted to ask about how Kookie would study for the exam but he said they're looking into it.

It seemed that Kookie's schedule is tight. The last time we talked was four days ago, when he went to school on Monday. On Wednesday, he was absent. He also he told me he can't use his phone.

"Why the long face?" Julia asked as she settled down in front of me. We're here in her house to review. We got this Friday afternoon free so we grabbed the chance to review. We've been chatting during our free times the whole week, and if we want passing scores, we have to focus.

"I thought we're going to review? Why are you asking me a question that would soon be a topic of chatting?" I asked with a grin.

Julia sighed, "I can't help it! You look like you've already failed the exams!"

I jokingly hit her on the arm, "Hey! Don't say it!"

"Sorry," she laughed, "but, Seanne, you really looked like your business went bankrupt. What happened? Is it about you and Kookie?"

Look at her knowing it easily.

I sighed, "Well... We haven't talked since Monday."

"What?! Even text or call?"

I shook my head.

Julia rolled her eyes, "Ugh! Really? Well, you have his schedule right?"

I nodded and showed the picture to her. "He is shooting for his variety show where he'll be a guest. It would be aired next week."

"OMG! It's Grand Reunion!" Julia exclaimed. "So the celebrity they were teasing in the commercial is Kookie? Wow!"

"Yeah," I propped open my book.

Julia nudged me, "Are you going to watch?"

I gripped my book tightly, "No."

Julia sighed, "He will sing there, right? So you won't see him perform then..."

I didn't react. I wanted to see him perform of course. But...

Julia tapped my shoulder gently, "Is it because of your..."

I was about to answer her when my phone vibrated. It's Dad calling.

"Aren't you going to answer?"

I picked my phone and put it inside my bag. "Let's just review."

"Oh, girls!"

We looked up when Julia's Mom, Aunt Kathy came. I thought she has a business meeting. Apparently, Julia is thinking the same because she was surprised of her mother's sudden appearance.

"Mom, I thought you're meeting with Mr. Gavino?" Julia asked, standing to take her Mom's bag.

"Oh, there's fire in the hospital where his daughter who just gave birth is confined," her mom said in distress, then she reached for the remote and turned on the TV.

My heart started to beat faster as I read the headline in large red fonts.

"---the fire has started in the Pediatrics Ward of St. Paul University Hospital this 8:30AM and---"

I stood. That's my Mom's ward.

"Seanne?" Julia called me as I reach for my phone inside my bag. With hands shaking, I searched for Mom's number and dialed. But...
