Jayden's POV
I paced to and fro in the kitchen as I wait for Julia's reply. I asked her to contact Seanne, because she's ignoring my calls and even my messages. I'm really worried about her...
I should have followed her when she left.
"---Why did you tell her about the engagement all of a sudden? Sev, you know how she'll react," I heard Dad's anguished voice from the living room. He's having a serious discussion with Uncle Sevy, with Mom and Prof. Camille who are not commenting anything. I walked to the door to listen in.
"You told me not to keep it from her, Lar." I wonder how Uncle Sevy sounded so calm. Doesn't he know his daughter is not answering her phone?
"Yes, but not so abruptly. The child was so shocked you see!" Dad on the other hand sounded so frustrated. Everyone knows Seanne's her favorite. He found in her the daughter he never had.
"Larry, Seanne is not a child anymore," Uncle Sevy said. "I still don't know why she can't understand us, why we have to separate. You think I haven't tried talking about it to her? I tried, Larry. But she just becomes rude everytime I attempt at the topic. It would just start a misunderstanding between us."
I heard Dad sighed.
My phone beeped.
[From: Julia
Seanne is alright. Though she sounded like she cried when I called her]I shook my head. Then I went out the kitchen.
Uncle Larry and Prof. Camille seemed to be going. When they saw me, Dad asked, "Did you speak to Sea?"
I shook my head, "She didn't pick up." I met Uncle Sevy's gaze, "Uncle Sev, I never mean to pry but---"
"JD," Mom started, but Dad raised a hand to stop her. This is one of the moments I admire Dad's authority.
"What is it son?" Uncle Sevy said.
"I'm sorry, I can't help overhearing what you said, and I felt I need to speak about Seanne." I clenched my fists. I know Seanne and I might fight because of this, but I have to let Uncle Sevy to know so they could fix this. I drew a deep breath, "Seanne is trying her best to understand both you and Auntie Nelle, but she she doesn't get why she has to lose her parents."
Uncle Sevy's face turned pale, and Dad looked at him while shaking his head. I looked down, and that night three years ago, on her 16th birthday flashed before my eyes. It's the first time she got drunk...

At some random secluded beach out of town, 1:15 AM"Puds! Stop drinking, Dad will kill me if he learned I let you drink!" I grabbed the bottle of wine from her. She kept pestering me the whole week to sneak past Dad's wine collection. It's the first time she drank alcoholic beverage, and she has zero tolerance of it. I will surely get an earful from Mom if this gets to her! I shouldn't have agreed to this girl in the first place!
She slumped down on the sand. She has almost drank all of the content of the bottle, and I felt like I would be dealing with her trouble any minute now.
Sheez, I just hope she won't get wild.
"Jayden Lim," she muttered in a slurred speech, "I'm not a kid okay? It's my 16th birthday okay? I'm---I'm... I'm haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa--"
I covered her mouth, "Hey! Stop shouting like that! People might see us!" I looked around us in panic. Thankfully, all the guests in the resort are asleep.
She pulled my hands from her face, and when she looked at me, tears are trickling down her pink-patched cheeks. "JD..." Her lips trembled. "Why does it hurt? Why am I always in pain?"
