"So you're my son's personal assistant?"
I nodded, but did not dare look away. He seemed not so happy with me.
"Are you close?"
I swallowed. "I... Uhm... We get along..."
"You get along..." He repeated. He seemed to be pondering about it.
I looked down my hands.
"Kookie is my youngest son. My eldest son is studying in America. I want Kookie to be like his brother, focusing on his studies and not wasting his time doing things that are temporary."
I looked up at him. Why on earth is he telling me this?
"I allowed him to do what he wants, and he said he would still go to school. But I noticed he has no ambition aside from doing music." His face shone with contempt. As if doing music is something foul and disgraceful. "I originally allowed him because I knew he would give up. This industry is not a playground. I knew because I personally have a hand at the entertainment company. But it seems he doesn't want to give up."
"He loves what he's doing," I blurted out. I don't know what made me say it, but I felt I have to.
He considered me for a while, then scowled. "I wanted him to quit on his own."
"He's happy--"
"Do you know why I am telling this to you, Miss Park?" He looked coldly at me. I did not quiver and looked at him too. "Because I know the relationship you have with my son."
It felt as if my stomach fell. My head spun momentarily and I gripped the sofa's armrest to keep myself steady.
I wanted to say something but I cannot speak.
"Make him quit."
"S-Sir?" My voice broke. Quit...?!
"He won't listen to me, I know it because he's my son. But he might listen to you."
I took a deep breath to gather all my courage, "With all due respect sir, I cannot do what you say."
He watched me as if he is expecting it.
"Kookie is happy, why do you have to--"
"You won't understand my side, Miss Park. You're not a parent."
What?
"What kind of parent want their child to give up his happiness?" I said in firm but low voice.
"I know you'd say that. But all parents want what's best for their children." He rested his back and sipped coffee. "So, you are saying you wouldn't do what I want?"
"Of course. I will never do it."
"Then, consider yourself warned."
I frowned. "Sorry?"
"You might get tangled into this, Miss Park. I know my son likes you so much, I'm sure he'd protect you at all cost."
"Sir!" I stood. To heck with respect. "Are you saying you'll use me--"
He merely stared at me.
I nodded, "Fine. I get it. But I am telling you this, as a child to a parent... We are your children, we came from you. But we are not yours." I turned to the door. But then I looked back at him, "Kookie is happy with what he's doing. I will not let me be the reason for him to give that up. Good bye."
The moment I went out, I slumped on the floor.
My whole body is shaking.
You might get tangled into this, Miss Park. I know my son likes you so much, I'm sure he'd protect you at all cost.
