Seanne's POV
"Sorry."
I looked at Kookie.
We have just arrived in his apartment, and he is sitting on the sofa with his head bowed.
I took a deep breath and sat beside him. "Is there a problem?"
He did not speak for a full minute.
I wanted to confront him now, the way I complained to Julia. But I know that's not the best option.
If I want to make him speak, I have to let him feel I can listen.
So I stayed silent. I held his right hand with both of my hands. I listened to the soft tick-tock of the clock, and our seemingly shallow breathing.
Minutes stretch on to an hour. From the window, I can see it's already dark outside. The whole house is also getting dark, because no one stands to turn on the lights. It almost felt as if we're on a battle of resolve.
I'm getting hungry.
I wanted to keep my vigil, but I haven't eaten much during lunch. My stomach is rumbling.
I heard him sigh.
Then finally, he spoke, "I'll fetch you home."
"Kookie, you know you can share it with me," I muttered. I felt his gaze on me.
"It's nothing, really."
"But still, tell it to me." I gripped his hand. "Whether it's small or big, tell me."
"It's just that... I'm scared."
I felt relieved. "Don't worry. It's less than a week now. After that, you can come back to the rehearsal, and dance and perform again."
He did not speak.
I put my palms on his cheeks, and pulled him to face me. I can see his eyes glinting in the darkness of the room. I smiled. "I'm here for you. I'll support you."
He nodded. Then held my hands. He closed his eyes.
I leaned over and kissed him gently on the lips. "I love you, Kookie Alistair."
He pulled me and kissed me back. It's getting deeper, and Kookie is becoming more searching, and I'm starting to lose my resistance when-as if on cue, my stomach gave a particular loud grumble.
We both stopped, and Kookie laughed.
"You're hungry?" He blurted out, sniggering.
I felt my face hot, "I didn't have enough lunch, okay?" I sat up straight and pulled down my blouse. "I also need to go home. It's late, and Dad told me he would ask the dorm manager what time I'm coming after class."
"Would he really?"
"You don't know my Dad," I said and took my bag and phone. "By the way, your schedule is cleared next week right?"
"Yup," he wrapped both arms around my waist. "Why? Wanna hang out? Shall we go out of town?"
"Yes, we shall." I smiled. "At an island. It's far from the city, with a small number of visitors. So it will be safe even if you're outside."
"Really? Just the two of us?" He grinned naughtily.
I slapped him jokingly, "Of course not. We will go together with Julia and Jayden."
"And Jayden?!" Kookie grimaced.
"Yeah. It's time you make friends with him. He's cool," I said.
"Cool my foot. He only snobs me even if I was the one who approach him. That guy has a lot of pride," he muttered.
