two months later
Two months had passed, two months since I arrived here in Melbourne and tried to leave my past behind in England. Beau, Skip, Luke, James and Jai had all been so supportive, as had Gina (the Brook's boys Mum) when they found out about my life- and I would forever owe them for making me feel welcome into their family. It was the day I told Beau about my past that he insisted I came over and met his Mum, and that's when I told her everything about why I moved and she held me in her arms as I cried and told me I always had them, and if I ever felt alone all I had to do was go over to their house. She made me feel like I had someone when I was at my lowest, and for that I would be eternally grateful. I saw them all near enough every day and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Gina even helped me get a job, it wasn’t anything special, just at a clothes store in the shopping centre, but it was decent pay and something to keep me busy until I found something else. They'd all done so much for me, I sometimes felt a burden, but I never wanted to admit it because they were all I had.
“Amelia, would you mind giving me a hand?” Gina's soft voice rang from the kitchen. I stood from the sofa where I was comfortably sat playing an intense game of Fifa on the ps3 with Luke and he let out a groan of frustration as I quit the game and followed Gina's voice.
"Of course, what do you want me to do?" I questioned before washing my hands and joining her at the worktops awaiting instructions from her. Without turning from the pan which was frying mince and garlic, she pointed in the direction of the onions, mushrooms and peppers which needed chopping and I got to work straight away.
"You're a gem" She cooed as the final product was being dished up and placed on the table along with a plate of garlic bread. "Can you go and fetch the boys, please?" I nodded and turned out of the kitchen, leaving Gina to place glasses in front of each plate mat.
“Pigs, dinners ready” I smiled as I popped my head around the living room door. Instantly all 3 boys jolted up and sprinted towards the door, barging into me as they did. I almost lost my balance as Luke's shoulder crashed into me, but Beau's arms managed to snake around me and catch me before my body could hit the floor.
"Careful Lake, you might hurt yourself" He winked before stalking off towards the kitchen. I laughed at him as he called me by my last name and followed the boys through to the kitchen taking the last spare seat at the table. “Thanks for having me over” I said to Gina as we began to eat, she just looked at me and rolled her eyes.
“Don’t be silly, you know you’re welcome anytime” I smiled at her and thanked her for her continuous hospitality and taking me under her wing, she meant so much to me, she was pretty much like my second mum- not that she could ever replace my own.
“James and Skip are coming round later and staying over, do you want to stay?” Luke asked with a grin, looking up from his dish and sucking the stringy past into his mouth. I scrunched my eyebrows at his lack of table manners and then cracked a smile.
“Oh, I don’t want to intrude” I shook my head and looked back down at my plate, scraping a piece of garlic bread over the tomato based sauce when realistically, I did want to stay. It sounds stupid, but sometimes I just feel so lonely in that house all on my own, I'd considered getting a roommate but then decided against it.
“Please stay” Jai laughed “It will be funny” I nodded slightly and then looked towards Gina. "She can stay can't she, Mum?" Jai said in a pleading, childlike voice. I chuckled lightly to myself and then took a sip of my ice cold water.
“Of course it is, Amelia is the only teenage girl who's welcome in my house whenever she wants... So bare that in mind boys" Gina laughed, shooting a wink in my direction. I laughed along with her and agreed to stay the night with the boys.
