I let out a heavy sigh and wiped away a stray tear which had fallen from my tired eyes. Using my index finger I swiftly wiped it away and continued to pack the remains of my clothes in the cases and boxes that were placed in front of me.
Taking a deep breath, I stood and looked around the now empty flat which once belonged to my mother and I. "Sorry Ma'am, but we're ready to go" The removal man shifted uncomfortably on his feet as he walked back through the door to take the last remaining box. I wiped my eyes and forced myself to paint on a smile.
"Do you know when things are due to arrive?" My voice croaked as I spoke. Everything seemed to be breaking down within me. I ached in places I didn't know I could ache in.
“Everything we're shipping to you should arrive within the next 2-3 weeks” he told me, and he then proceeded to confirm my new details and address to ensure they were sending everything to the correct loaction.
A taxi horn sounded loud outside. “Perfect timing" I chuckled. "Thank you so much for all your help, here-" I began rummaging around in my pocket until my hand grasped the thin paper. I handed the man a twenty pound note. "I'm sorry it's nothing much, I only have fourty on me in English money excluding my taxi fare, and I'll need some for the airport! Anyway, once again thank-you". And with that, I handed over my flat key and grasped the two suitcases which I would be taking on the flight with me to get me through the weeks until the rest of my things arrived.
As I walked outside, I took one final look around me, I looked at the moss covered walls and the fag-butts that lay stamped out on the pavement. Grafitti was plastered on the walls surrounding me and the smell of petrol and the occasional scent of cannabis intoxicated me for the last time. I didn't live in the nicest of areas- but it was home.
"The meters running love, where is it you're going?" I opened the cab door and flung my suitcases into the back and I followed them in.
"Gatwick airport, please"

I figeted uncomfortably in my seat, trying to find a some-what relaxing position that didn't cramp up my legs. "Thank sweet baby Jesus that this is the last haul of the flight and it's nearly over" I groaned to the older lady who was seated next to me.
"I know ducky, my legs are aching! They don't cope well being cooped up like this when you're as old as I" she sighed, looking down at her legs which were swelling slightly from the pressure in the cabin. I gave her a reassuring smile.
"Just half an hour more, it'll fly by" I said optimisitically.
Right on cue, the voice of the captain echoed. "Good morning ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. If you could all please return to your seats, ensure they are in the upright position and fasten your seat belts, we are now preparing for our descent into Tullamarine airport" I took a deep breath and peeled the collection of magazines off the tray in front of me and pushed it back into the chair in front of me.
I looked out of the window at the ground below me, the buildings and foundations which looked so different from home. "I love you Mum, please stay with me". The next half hour went incredibly fast, it was a blur of the cabin crew actioning their routine checks before landing and circling the area below us, awaiting permission to land.
Finally we touched down and the whole plane erupted in a cheer. "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have arrived in Melbourne, the local time here is 09:20 and the temperature is 28 degrees. Thank you for flying with British Airways, we hope you have enjoyed your flight and have a lovely stay here in Australia".
"Well goodbye" I waved to the older lady as we waited in baggage claim, she lent in and gave me a light squeeze.
"Good luck here, I hope it's everything you hoped for" She smiled before grabbing her bag and wandering off into the crowd. I pushed my way through the people surrounding the carousel in hope to catch a glimpse of my two oversized suitcases. I prepared myself as I saw them coming towards me and lent forward to drag them off.
“Oh wait, here, let me help you” a soft Australian accent sounded from behind me, a chuckle was evident in his sentence, presumably from my lack of strength. The stranger lent over me and took over dragging the suitcases off the track. "Shit, they're heavy" he laughed, placing them on the luggage trolley I had waiting.
“Thank you for your help, and saving me the embarrassment” I laughed, pulling my hair up into a ponytail and removing my black cardigan, throwing on top of one of the suitcases. I felt so disgusting and grubby, I craved a shower and to wash away the grime from the flight.
"Honestly, it's no problem? Do you have anymore, you look like you're in for a long stay" I wanted the stranger to turn around, I wanted to see his face seen as though his arms and back profile looked exceptionally impressive, but on the other hand I didn't really want to be faced with someone insanely gorgeous when I had just got off board a 23 hour long flight and resembled Shrek.
“No that's them all thank you. The rest is being shipped over” I sighed and stretched my arms behind me, feeling satisfied as my shoulders grinded and clicked. "I really appreciate your help".
“It's no problem at all" he turned and faced me, my breath hitched as I saw him. The boys I'd grew up around were worlds away from this boy, their pasty white skin had nothing on his incredible blemish-free tanned canvas. His jawline looked as though it could cut your finger off if you touched it, it was so wonderfully defined. He wasn't the tallest of boys, but he was still taller than me. His dress sense was so different from the matching two piece Nike tracksuits I was used to seeing the English boys I lived around wear. His tight black skinny jeans was paired perfectly with his low cut plain white t-shirt and white converse. It was so refreshing to see a boy who took pride in the way her looked. I let my eyes wander freely over him.
"Well, I better go, I'm meant to be meeting my Mum her flight got in around 5 minutes ago" I tore my eyes off his muscular arms and back up to meet his face. I nodded and ensured I had everything ready to leave the airport, I hoisted my carry on bag onto my shoulder and grabbed onto the luggage trolley.
"Well once again, thank you for everything. I probably would've dislocated both of my arms trying to get them off there" I laughed, "Bye" I smiled as we both began walking in our own directions.
"Cya" he chuckled and then turned fully and began walking to a different baggage carousel where a woman who I presumed was his mother emerged from the crowd. She dropped her bag and threw her arms around his neck. Tears pricked at my eyes as I envied what they had. I wanted nothing more than to feel the warmth of my Mum's arms around me once more.
