Chapter 24: Unexpected Visitor

Screams rang through your ears and your heart began to pound; but this time it wasn't from butterflies, your heart began to pound with fear. Bunny's ears stood up straight and he towered back to his normal height, "somethin' definitely ain't right...."

You gripped onto his paw and your legs began to move on their own; you couldn't stop yourself despite the danger that lingered ahead. You dragged him along carefully, winding through the chaotic crowd of your citizens.

Children were running and flying off with their families, guards got people to safety, but what were they being protected from was your question. Bunny bounded carefully along behind you, trying to remain as calm as possible so that you could both get to the centre of this madness. Yet when you did, your jaw fell slack.

Demitrius stood directly in the centre of the ballroom holding a small baby, her glowing baby blue eyes filled with tears as the man held her in his arms. North, Tooth and Vanish stood around him, holding their weapons tightly despite barely being able to keep themselves up on their feet anymore.

"Didn't expect to see me here, did you darling?" The man grinned, holding the child and rocking her, "I cannot believe it, the Guardian's themselves, no longer believed in."

You stared at the man with fire in your eyes, growling audibly. Your fingers twitched, aching to have themselves wrapped around the hilt of your sword. People looked on in fear, patiently anticipating the next words.

"Have you not truly told your own kingdom yet?" Demitrius smiled, "have you not told them what's happening? What you're turning into?"

"Why should I make my own Kingdom worry."

"Because you may end up in a worse position than your daughter right now," he said, holding Rogue in his arms, "Human's see Cupid as a baby flittering around on her tiny little wings shooting people with arrows filled with love. So that's what she turned into now that she's not longer believed in."

"Then why has that not happened to any of us." North bellowed with laughter, aiming a blade out at Demitrius and leaning on another for support as his scowl returned, "We are all perfectly fine."

"Oh but you aren't. You're getting weaker old man, you can barely keep yourself up anymore. The same is happening with Ms Toothiana here as well."

You looked towards both of them, you hated it but, you had to agree. North could barely hold himself up anymore; bags hung under his eyes, he had no energy or Wonder left to share. The same was with Tooth. Vanish had to help keep her upright, allowing Tooth to lean against her for support, feathers scattered everywhere. Much like you, she could barely fly as well.

"And have you told them what happened earlier today, dear?" He smiled, a sadistic look in his eyes striking fear into your own heart. You remembered now, Jamie couldn't see you anymore, none of the children could.

"Well? Are you going to tell them? Or am I going to."

North, Tooth, Vanish and Bunny looked to you in confusion, their stares setting your anxiety off, "well...I-" you gulped, staring down at your gloved hands in fear.

You sighed, "my people, my friends and my family. I am afraid that...due to the recent events regarding the Boogey Man...I'm no longer believed in anymore either...."

The people around you gasped, worry and fear setting into their hearts. They believed it was impossible for you to be forgotten, so many humans were the ones to place the angel statues atop Christmas Trees, they had to believe in you. It was impossible not to.

"We are still the Gurdians, we will still fight to protect our children no matter the costs. We will stand up to Pitch and fight against him and the darkness!" You tried to make the people listen, you tried to make them hear your words, but unfortunately, you were cut off.

"Your speeches are so boring, darling. They always have been."

"And yet you didn't notice Vanish take back my daughter from right under your nose."

Demitrius immediately looked down into his arms to see that Rogue was taken right from him, Vanish disappearing with the child. "You..."

"Me?" You said, pulling your gloves off to reveal your skin becoming completely grey, "you don't know who you're messing with Demitrius, you married the quiet little lady that cared about you back then, not knowing who you were really dealing with. But now, now that I'm not believed in, you already know what I'm turning into."

"Shelia...? You..."

"I know. Don't worry..." you mumbled, black dust swirling around in your hand. North, Tooth and Bunny's eyes immediately went wide.

It finally all made sense, your golden eyes were identical to Pitch's. Your skin was turning the same grey colour that was Pitch's. And you could control the dark sand. Just like Pitch.

And just like that, you were holding the same scythe that Pitch had crafted himself. Your whole appearance changed from light to dark, how did they not notice this?

"Guards. I'd like him locked up in the most well guarded cell." You said, your poker face making an appearance, "I have more important things to deal with."

"You're turning into your own Brother, huh? I have to say, this is very, very exciting. The eldest Guardian, showing her true colours." Demitrius grinned, his hands being shackled together and Guards gripping onto him. "Oh what would the Sandman say...oh wait. He's gone. All thanks to you, (Y/N)."

Tears pricked at your eyes, you gripped onto the scythe in both of your hands. Shadows and nightmares crept around you, Manny would be disappointed.

"Take him away before I do something  stupid..."

"But your Highness-"

"Do as I say. That is an order."

The guards sighed and nodded to your demand; they placed a muzzle over Demitrius's face, dragging him away towards the cells. North, Tooth and Bunny stood to your side, their concern growing stronger as they stared at you.

"Party's over. You may all go home. I believe that is enough excitement for one night." You said, the scythe disappearing from your hands.

"We need to get to the globe..."
