Sam's POV:
I stay in bed with Toby until eight. We've been on the bus since ten last night so we've been driving for ten hours now. We should be nearing Springfield so I decide to go check in with the driver. When I enter the front room, I find Connor and Riley on the couch eating.
"Hey." Riley says. "Is Toby back there?"
"Yeah, he got sick last night. He still is. But he'll be fine. I'm just checking in with the driver." I tell them.
"Whats wrong with him?"
"Well, if you must know, he has a fever and he," I make the motion of throwing up.
"Ewww. He better not get me sick." Connor says jokingly but he means it."Yeah. But its probably one of those twenty four hour things. Hold on, I'll be right back." I say and head to the drivers seat.
I knock on the divider and open it up. "Hey, how you doing?" I ask him.
"Tired but good. Were about an hour away from Springfield but I'm gonna start branching off to major highways leading everywhere. So if you could just take this map," he leans to his left and grabs a map from undeneath him."And mark where you want me to go, that would be great."
"Yeah, I'll do that." I grab the map from him and before I go, I ask, "you need anything? Coffee? Food?"
"Nah I'm good, maybe a little later."
"Okay, call if you need something." I take the map and close the divider again. I take a seat at the small table and open the map to Illinois. The map is small, so only the most major highways and cities are labled, so my small town won't be on it.
Connor takes a seat next to me. "Oooh what is this?"
"I'm marking this for the driver." I find the star the driver drew to label where we are now and then I find where I live. I place two fingers on the map. "I'd say were almost there."
"So where we going?" Connor and I spend the next ten minutes planning on which ways to take according to our plans. We want to avoid the major cities but we want to make the trip as short as possible. I don't bother labeling past the expressway by my house, I know it well enough from there.
"Okay. Now, when are we gonna see some Chicago weather. I've been dying to see this." Connor says when he returns from giving the driver his map back.
"I'm not." Riley says from the couch.
"Aww come on, someone's too much of a Florida guy to appreciate weather like this." I say as I get up and walk to the window. I yank open the curtains and sure enough were all blinded by the perfect whiteness of the snow that is everywhere. You can see past probably fifty feet the snow is falling so hard.
"Holy crap." Riley says, his eyes wide. "Why do you live here?"
"Because I have no where else to go." I laugh. "And plus the summers get pretty nice."
"In Florida there's no such thing as winter." Riley says.
"Yeah well, I actually like winter. But when it gets to be February and March and its still crazy outside, we all know its about to go down. You know with arctic temperatures. Its nice." I say sarcastically.
"Yeah. I can't wait to step outside." Riley says.
"Oh come on bro! This is great!" Connor says wrapping an arm around Riley's neck.
"You know when we get to your house, this bus is going to have to pull right up to the garage. I'm not walking in the cold. I'm too fragile." Riley jokes.
